Our film buyer - who hates most movies - actually laughed until she hurt.

There of course WAS a lot of bathroom humor - but there was also a lot of unexpected more abstract humor.

Definitely worth seeing if you like senseless comedy.

I thought the movie was funny in quite a few parts, and dumb in others. They tried to do gross-out humor, but didn't pull it off. The gross out scenes were just kind of annoying. I'm actually surprised to see what they got away with in this movie.

I was in the mood for a stupid-ass movie, and this fit the bill, although I would NEVER pay for anything like this. It's kind of hard paroding a parody, though, as the original SCREAM was a parody of horror flicks.

I did enjoy the scene inside the movie auditorium, and how everyone gets their revenge on the annoying patron. That should be clipped out and shown on the front of all movies so that people get the point. Cut out the stupid scene in the theater bathroom, though.
 

I'm also amazed at the shit they got away with in this movie. Even Orgazmo didn't have this many dicks. And that sperm geyser!? I'd have thought the MPAA would cry bloody murder over that one. I'm sure that scene will gross people out more than elicit a chuckle. But with people nowadays, you never know.

I do have to admit, though that there were some pretty damn funny scenes. I'm about to cite examples so if you don't what anything SPOILED for you, stop reading.

Okay. For instance, the movie stabbing scene for one. And when Greg is beating the holy hell out of Cindy. I also had to laugh at the Amistad 2 trailer and the flashback scene where they were driving and Greg gets hit with a barrage of branches, gets a honeycomb stuck on his head, and forces Cindy to go down deeper onto Billy. And there were a few others. But just about everything else is stupid. Doofy was just annoying.

Anyway, I'm glad I got paid to watch the movie rather than the other way around or I'd have been pissed.

Anyway, back to "Scary Movie". I was amazed that the bathroom "penis" scene and the "sperm geyser" scenes made it into the movie, since such scenes generally cause an NC-17 rating. I saw this movie in a nearly packed auditorium and the "sperm geyser" scene caused continuous laughter from the audience for at least 30 seconds. It got the biggest laugh of anything in the movie, although the audience reacted and laughed a lot (at least once every minute or two).

The movie exceeded my "funniness" expectations. If you just want to put your brain in neutral and have a lot to laught at, this movie is highly recommended. I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be the number one movie this weekend. The theatre I visited in Decatur, AL was more busy than I'd seen it in a long time, and "Scary Movie" was the only new movie it had received in a few weeks. It was being run in two auditoriums.

Another observation that impressed me: in the movie theatre scene, when the screen was first displayed, and "Shakespeare in Love" was going to be the move, the screen was setup for flat, and I said to myself, and my friend, "I thought that was a scope film." When the actual movie scenes were shown, the screen shown in the scene was "scope" ratio. I was impressed that they got it right.

i could of done without the penis jokes though. i found it just a little disturbing to see one mans penis enter into to one ear and exit through the other in ammends to kill a person. but oh well it has to be done.

but i though the sex scene was hilarious. and how he used a chainsaw to shave her bush that was great. And the "old faithful" sperm geyser. One of the only things that annoyed me was that scene where he is killing that one girl while she is making all these sarcastic remarks. and it continues while she was decapitated.

The five year olds are carrying concealed penises and slaughtering everyone in sight! Oh the humanity!!

Actually, the blame lies not with the film makers, but soley with the parents who ignored the big, fat "R" that was printed in the theatre's ad for this movie. Hellooooo!!?

The biggest pit-fall of any critic is when he crosses the line between reviewing a movie and telling the film maker how to do his job.

I hated "Scary Movie" too. The press releases and the "big, fat *R* rating" pretty much clued me in to the fact that my son should watch "Pokemon" instead.

As a child, did you sneak into "Porky's" because you weren't old enough to see it? (I did!).

We can enforce the rating system (we do). We can supply info on the general content of a film (we do).

If a parent takes their child to a movie, we do not have the authority to second guess them.

The responsibility of raising children resides with the parents.

While they might just be morons, any further attempts would violate hard earned rights that people have, at some point in history, died to defend.

Living in a society where freedom of speech is allowed does not empower parents to be "brain dead" while the rating system protects them. Indeed, it makes it necessary for them to do their jobs (being a parent).

If a movie sucks, then say it sucks. Don't change it. Let the review (indeed, the film) speak for itself.

In the cafeteria scene, there is one sign I have not been able to read. One the black signs with white stick-on letters, above the food lines, the left sign reads "Same old Sh*t". The one on the right reads "(something) same old". I haven't been able to make out what the "(something)" is. It looked like "wide" but since the camera was not focused on it, it was slightly too blurry to read. Has anyone else been able to read it? I'm sure it will not be legible on the DVD.

The beer ad on the wall of the principal's office was a nice touch. I noticed that one for the first time tonight.

A couple of jokes were ruined in the movie tonight since it was shown at 1.85:1 . For example, the 25 1/2 finger joke didn't work because one hand was off the screen. The penis through the hole in the stall joke almost didn't work because the penis barely entered the screen. C'mon Regal, put in adjustable top masking, longer focal length lenses for scope, and file those aperture plates out to the right width!

A couple brought a baby into this movie!

There are some films that can get away with gross out gags because they are few enough to still be funny (see: There's Something About Mary) and are outweighed by some real humour.

Scary Movie is not one of them.

The Wayan brothers have had a script meeting and it went along the lines of "How can we make our movie funny?" "How about we just out-gross every other movie ever made?" "Good idea."

It wasn't.

They seem to have tried to outdo each other by coming up with gross out gags...in fact...the more gross...the better.

There are about two REAL gags in the entire film. By real, I mean using genuine humour instead of relying on natural instincts to come into effect when seeing something distateful.

In about January of this year, a little French film called 'Romance' was banned here. The censorship board had the opportunity to give it an 'R' censorship (US equivalent would be NC17) but they banned it so no-one could see it, not even us grown-ups. Anyway, there was an enormous outcry of 'how dare they tell us what adults can and cannot watch' and the media came out in support of this and as a result the film was passed with our 'R' rating. The publicity gave the film unprecidented exposure and the film ended up running about 10 times longer than it would have had it not been banned in the first place.

So, they had banned 'Romance' initially for its nudity and frankness. This film caused people that actually got to see it to go 'what a waste of money' and 'they banned THAT?' and such like. This was a boring film and if anyone is interested in seeing it, I suggest you go watch paint dry as there'll be more happening there than in this movie.

Now, here we have 'Scary Movie' with graphic shots of testacles, penises, severed heads (that continue to talk because THAT is funny!), stabbings, people being run down by cars etc...

...and what did the censorship board give this one? Did they ban it? No. Not a chance. Did they give it an 'R' rating so no-one under 18 could see it at all? Absolutely not. It got an 'MA' classification which is a bullshit rating where if you're under 16 you need an adult to go see it with you. What a fucking embarrassment! If anyone were to see this film, it should ONLY be people 18 and over. Children should not have a chance at all to get in...but they BAN 'Romance'!

Scary Movie is garbage...and what's worse...if a kid aged 7 (or even younger) wants to see it, if he's got an 'adult' to go with him, we can't stop him.

To quote Sheriff Buford T. Justice..."What the hell is the world coming to?"

Shame on you Australian Censorship Board. You have failed us yet again.

A mixture of teen comedy and horror satire this movie makes a fair fist of sending up many of the current crop of horror films. I found the jokes in the film to be fair but not terribly strong.
