Seen at Carmike's Wynnsong 10, Billings, MT on 8/7/2000

Although it is fairly predictable and not too fast paced, I enjoyed watching the four stars work so much that it made up for the plot shortcomings. Clint Eastwood is excellent as the flinty old guy looking for one last chance to get himself and his crew into space; Donald Sutherland is hilarious as the old codger who thinks he's a babe-magnet, etc. James Cromwell does a great job, but the other ground-based actors are not as good. The movie is a lot funnier than I expected it to be, too.

Some elements of the story are not fleshed out that well, and there are a few characters (such as Clint's wife) that we don't see enough of.

Other than the semi-satisfying theatre experience (see separate post in the Carmike comments in Film Handlers), this was an entertaining summer flick.

I hated this movie. It felt really choppy and it got annoying real quick. IMHO the acting was sub-par to what the four were capeable of. I can't beleive they got all four of them to go along with this flic.

Now I *really* liked this movie...I actually thought the cast did an astounding job with the script they had to work with, and Eastwood as a director has proven himself many times...did they dull-down the science for the older audience though? you can really enjoy this film if you can believe that you can eye-ball it to the moon you know, just point the nose and stomp the gas! but anyway, i can live with it...I recommend.

My wife and I just got around to seeing this pic last night. We both like it. I don't think Clint Eastwood has ever made a bad flick and this won't be his first. SpFx were just right and although the physics were a bit underdone I can live with that. Great story telling, I thought. Predictable? Yes. But a fun evening at the movies. Go see it. It's fun and not a let down
