The effects in the movie were impressive, and the movie was largely geared toward kids. I wasn't quite as impressed as I expected to be, but I would recommend it as a family Christmas movie. I am EXTREMELY glad that the Rugrats movie came out this weekend because it reduced the number of young kids in the Grinch audience. The audience in my showing of the Grinch included a lot of kids, but the group was very well-behaved and there were no significant distractions.
I wonder how much of the Who's faces (and the Grinch's) was accomplished by computer generated material and how much was done by masks and make-up.
Anyway, it is good to see something come out that is making people flock to theatres again. When I left the theatre, a huge crowd was waiting in the lobby to get into the next show, and I was really glad to see that. Hopefully, it will help the financial condition of the theatre companies.

Wasn't sure what to make of the audience reaction on opening nite...the first lady to come out of the theatre said, "Well I bet Dr. Seuss is rolling over in his grave!" I esplained to her that his wife had full script approval, etc. She said "I can't believe she approved of THAT mess!"
But everyone else I've talked to has liked the movie.
The only parts I didn't like weres the "heart attack" scene at the end (too long) and the "fudge judge" part in the middle (too disgusting).
The little girl Taylor Momsen did a great job, I thought. Carrey was excellent too. And Anthony Hopkins did an excellent job on the narration.
Favorite line: The Grinch's outgoing answering machine message!
