Interesting ghost story. Filmed flat and does not aspire to block-buster status. Very small cast and location. Either the theater (Regal 10plex Poulsbo, Wa. house 5) had some light problems or the film was shot to darkly. Also the volume level, although fine for trailers was too low for the film. On the other hand it made everyone shut up so they could hear.
This film will keep you guessing until the last reel. I enjoyed it. I'm not going into details as it is best if the story unfolds the way it was meant to, for each viewer. Try it.------------------

Excellent film. Like Greg I won't go into details and spoil it (if you work at a movie theatre, DO NOT watch the last 10 minutes before you see the whole thing).As far as the lighting, I think that it was meant to be like that, part of the story in a way. The sound for us was fine, the dialogue was quiet, yes, but again I think that was supposed to add to the atmosphere. The score seemed at a good volume. Maybe the auditorium you watched it in Greg had DTS and they forgot to put the disks in?

Nah. The staff just adjusted the volume for the trailers and left it like so many other theaters tend to do. It's too bad. With Brad's $5 solution there really is no excuse for this anymore.

I actually ended up running the fader at 3/4 of a point above "normal" for that auditorium on this flick. The audio track is mostly mono dialogue, but it is recorded very quiet for an effect that it does pull off rather nicely.Overall I don't think this was the best suspense/horror film I've ever seen, but it is definitely worth a screening. Much better than most of the crap that has been released this year. Be forewarned though, it does move slowly, so if you don't like slow movies, don't bother with this one.
...and definitely do NOT watch any part of that last reel before you sit down and watch the entire film straight through!

I, for one, thought this movie was a helluva fine film. I thought the acting was teriffic, espically from the two children in the film, and the camera work was great. As for the lighting, i think it was definately shot dark,a nd any scene with light is almsot blinding. As for the sound, this movie had some serious kick-ass DTS on it, the best i have heard in a while. Although the dialog was VERY low. I had actually turned the DTS volume up so that the 6 of us previewing it could hear the damn thing, and when the DTS really started to kick in during the tense moments, it nearly made me...well, let's not get into that. Anyway, quite the interstingly made film. For anyone who liked The 6th Sense, they should love this movie for it's suprises and erieness.

I thought this movie was great, it kept me guessing the whole way. The acting was really good, expecially the girl. I think the film was supposed to be dark to add to the atmosphere of the type of film it was meant to be. I didn't notice any sound problems but then again, I watched this flick in a stereo autotorium.

I think I liked this. It does move slowly, but "The Sixth Sense" moved slowly too. Nicole Kidman did a good job as usual. I was intrigued by the child actors. They were good, especially the boy. The film is darkly lit, as to be expected according to the story line. Not something I would expect that could be seen very well at a drive-in. The dialogue and sound reminded me of a non-mainstream (artsy) film of the 60s.

Good comment Mitchell... I saw this film over the weekend at the Hi-Way 50 Drive-In Theatre in Lewisburg, Tennessee.. and it was definetly NOT the greatest print to show at a drive-in. I think the darkness of the scenes add to the eeriness of the whole movie. I really enjoyed the plot, and I couldn't figure it out even after I saw the ending. My wife had to explain!! It's good to see a suspense/thriller with no blood-n-guts. ------------------

I liked this movie. It gave me a good dose of the willies and it had some really simple, yet neat surround effects. The end suprised me, but not my friend...I tend to be a bit dense when figuring stuff out like that.

Still anxiously awaiting this...the lighting and sound design seem really sumptuous from what I can see in the trailer.Something I realised recently was that I have already seen this director's previous feature during a Spanish film festival. It's called 'Thesis' ('Tesis') and it was really, really well directed and scary as hell. If 'The Others' is anywhere near as good, it will be very worthwhile viewing indeed. I believe director Alejandro Amenabar is only in his mid 20's. He knows what he is doing.
'Thesis' is available on DVD, by the way, but it is not for the faint of heart or the weak-stomached. Highly recommended.
