I'll be curious as to what others here have to say on this fun little flick. I walked into this movie without ever even seeing the trailer and knowing next to nothing about the story and I'm not sure if that is partially the reason why I enjoyed it so much or not. Regardless, it was entertaining all around and was one of those very rare movies where I was not counting reel changes, awaiting the end credits to hurry up and roll. In fact, I'd say this was perhaps 1 of 5 movies so far this year that did not bring about at least one look at my watch during the show.Here's the TV Guide description: "Two brothers drive cross country and are stalked by a crazy truck driver." Wow does that sound like a crappy movie! That is how the plot was explained to me and needless to say I was not looking forward to doing my time in that auditorium. Reminiscent of "The Hitcher" a little bit, "Joy Ride" is a good mix of humor and suspense that should be magnified even further with a large audience. Mali Finn did a great job with the casting and although the movie does stretch things just a little bit here and there, is a very enjoyable movie overall. Go try and catch it this opening weekend with a large audience. (Sorry for the drive-in people. This movie is best viewed indoors with the crowd.)
There, I hope I didn't spoil it for anyone who is going to go see it.

it reminded me in a way of Spielberg's Duel Starring Dennis Weaver..one of my favorite movies....was Leelee Sobieski's nipples hard through out this movie or what.....

awesome film. i never thought that it would be much of a film, but i was pleasantly surprised. and i never thought that hearing a phone ring would make me jump! but what, no soundtrack available? gee whiz batman. lets just hope that they don't ruin the film by releasing part 2. i really didn't like the fact that the film was being compared to Duel starring Dennis Weaver. that was a lame movie of the week back in the days. joy ride was far superior to duel.

Brad,I was going to see it, but you ruined it for me. Just kidding.
I saw it tonight. I agree it's a step above the average movie of this genre. And what genre is that? I guess it's the Driving-Scared-Because-You-Are-Being-Stalked-By-A-Psycho genre. 
The Hitcher is still king, but Joy Ride is a much more satisfying film than Jeepers Creepers, a teenybopper popcorn flick of a similar type that I also enjoyed. Joy Ride is highly recommended, if you like the genre or appreciate director John Dahl's other work (Red Rock West, Last Seduction, etc).

I liked this and it was pretty creepy. I definetley will NOT be purchasing a cb radio anytime in the near future. Unfortunetly as Don noticed, they left it open for sequels. Lets hope that movie people learned from past mistakes...------------------

I was pretty surprised at how good this actually was. It's a pretty well crafted film. If you haven't seen it, it's worth a look. If you saw it and liked it, check out the DVD. It has a couple deleted scenes, and three (or four?) alternate endings. You can see how they retooled the film after rethinking the plot and doing some reshoots. There are also three commentary tracks. The Joy Ride DVD is a great use of the DVD format. Highly recommended.
