The Vampire Lestat returns as a rock n' roll performer who uses this premise to break a long standing secret to tell the world about vampires. More so to get the attention from the other vampires. The soundtrack is heavy hitting with hard rock music and sound effects and aggresive use of the surround channels. The filmakers did a good job keeping things straight as far as telling the story. But the visual effects were sometimes over done and silly at times. I give the film 2 1/2 stars.

03/11/2002, 12:50PM, Cinemark 17, Springfield OR, #15, scope, SR-D. Attended by about 12 people. Excellent presentation, though .1 LFE deep bass was weak.

This movie is ambitious, campy over-the-top cinematic trash, and I liked it. Sometimes I totally cave in to films that make a strong stylistic audio-visual statement, and this one does that, big-time. The sound was very loud and the mix made very aggressive use of all channels. No idle SR-D bits; I suspect the Dolby bit bucket must have run dry once or twice, but the processor covered up that condition nicely. Every amp was thoroughly cleaned of cobwebs, sort of like when my dad used to floor the family Oldsmobile (when mom wasn't with us) and explain that he was "cleaning out the carbon". If the mighty Cinemarkers had installed Realistic screen speakers like the AMC Prestonwood and pushed them this hard, driver parts would have been launched through the screen like shrapnel. Oh yeah, before I forget, the story held my attention, even if it was totally absurd (I mean, come on, this is a heavy-metal rock-and-roll vampire movie for crying out loud). I will probably have to see this again while it's in theaters.

Brian, the only possible reason I can think of why you didn't like this movie is it wasn't loud enough. I know you would have liked it if it had been nice and loud.

So, to summarize: Rock-and-roll vampire movies need to be played LOUD.

My wife and I went to the Drive-in to see this as my wife is a horror film junkie.

I'll think twice next time. This film attemtps to stylishly mix modern rock and roll culture with a gothic vampire plot. The result is so bad its almost laughable in places. Was it the overacting, the complete lack of believability in any of the plot, or the fact that the lead actress failed to show up for most of the film?

Probably all of the above. Save your fangs for a better quality flick.

Verdict 4 stars out of 10.

Much as I love film, I didn't marry one. (I assume you meant your wife is a horror film FAN).
