Showtime was actually quite surprising. twas much funnier than i thought it would be. de niro plays his "meet the parents" roll and murphy plays his "beverly hills cop" roll. when those two meet, get ready for wackiness! the shat made it all worth while. beware the zany out takes and the end... those should have been better, but what can ya do.

03/17/2002, Regal Cinema World 8, Eugene OR, #7, 12:05PM, scope, digital sound (format unknown). Attendance about 15. Very good presentation, but volume level was a little low (2nd time in as many visits), needs to be a little higher if you axe me. 6' x 6' patch of reflected daylight on left wall of auditorium, streaming in through the booth, gradually headed toward the screen during the movie...Robert DeNiro and Eddie Murphy team up for wacky police hijinx! DeNiro is the by-the-book veteran detective; Murphy is the beat cop who moonlights (or wants to) as an actor. They end up working together on a "reality" TV cop show called "Showtime!". Rene Russo is the show's producer; liked her a lot. They get to chase an actual bad guy around and along the way there are a couple of very well-done action sequences: A car chase, with inventive use of a trash truck; and an interesting rooftop swimming pool scene. DeNiro and Murphy are fine. William Shatner (my hero! 
) has a cameo, as himself as the technical adviser to the TV show. He was TV's TJ Hooker, and nobody knows more than TJ Hooker about cop procedures. Especially how to slide across the hood of the patrol car for the cameras.

i went in knowing little about this film, apart from the above post's.
i found the film to be totally lacking in originality, every single frame seemed to remind me of another film and both de niro and murphy just re did old characters from their previous films. i found the dramatic part of the film to be very lacking and gave the film an unbalanced feel to it!. i failed to see the point in making this film, apart from keeping people employed!
i must admit that i did laugh twice and it wasn't badly done, just unoriginal.

I found this to be an enjoyable and entertaining movie. A bit clicheed but the cliches are part of the humor.I rather enjoyed the cameo by William Shatner teaching how to be a cop on screen. Quite a laugh.
Verdict 7.5/10
