“Simone” - Story about artsy film director Viktor Taransky (Al Pacino) who has had too much trouble working with real leading ladies. When his lead actress (Winona Ryder) removes herself from his latest movie and he is fired from the studio by his ex-wife (Catherine Keener), Viktor “discovers” a beautiful virtual actress named Simone, a.k.a. Simulation One, who is able to follow his perfect direction. When his fraud gets out of control, Viktor has an impossible task of reeling this new icon back in.

This is a movie I really wanted to like and it is enjoyable. Al Pacino, Simone (as herself ), and Catherine Keener are great in their roles. The laughs, however, are not as plentiful as I would expect and it’s like Pacino is doing, essentially, a one man show. This needed to be more of an over-the-top, screwball comedy. I will say, however, that the ending was surprising, and satisfying. Worth watching.

I enjoyed this movie too. It has an interesting and humorous premise which works for about half of the film. But then it kind of gets stuck. I thought that the ending hurt the picture tremendously. They backed themselves into a corner which almost worked to their advantage, but then they decided to take the easy way out, and the film suffered because of it. But Pacino was great, as usual, and I think that it's probably the best looking film of the year so far.

If you know anything about computers this movie will annoy you a great deal. For example: Al Pacino gets a transparent hard drive that naturally he can put in a tray on his computer and it slides in like a CD. This very same computer also has a 5 and a quarter inch floppy disk drive which he can insert viruses into. Also the viruses have clearly labeled versions, like 7.1 or whatever. And after he destroys the program with the virus and dunks the transparent hard drive, his daughter easily recovers the data and repairs it with a couple of keystrokes even though she does not have the original hard drive.

Al Pacino also is the only one who knows about all of this technology. He even says in the beginning that he doesn't know much about computers. How did he create hologram emitters? How did he create a keyboard with a hologram button? Why does he need 3 monitors of the exact same thing around him? The list goes on and on.
