Just released on thursday, this new australian film deals with the great divide between white and black australians.
Set in a small country town (modern day) with a nearby mission where the aboriginal people live, the story centres around the local football teams quest for the local premiership trophy.
I did enjoy this film, but to my displeasure it started off in the traditional aussie larrikin style, as this is purely a drama it felt a little misleading, luckily it wasn't too long before the story was allowed to flow. As with most australian films it was beautifully shot and the performances of the cast were strong. Australian films seem to suffer in the script development and this i feel is another to fall prey.
It would be interesting to know how these recent australian films are recieved overseas as i fell this recent crop are of a carthartic period in australian cinema, about time for us, but i'm not too sure how they would go O.S.
