This was a nice surprise. It seems like there have been a lot of films in the past few months that have used the techniques established by the Hong Kong action movies, and most of those films have been good. But FORMULA 51 is probably the best of them. It's the best-written, and the best-acted, for sure. It also is the most brutal. It has a good sense of humor, too. The action is very nicely done. I especially like how very short close-up inserts were used as a kind of punctuation mark. This movie felt a lot like TIME AND TIDE. The only difference is that FORMULA 51 actually has a plot which can be followed by the average viewer.
