This is the latest documentary from the directory of "American Movie" (which, if you haven't seen it, you must!). This one is essentially a series of interviews with people who have unusual homes. There's an alligator farmer (really!) who lives on a houseboat, a weirdo who has an "electronic home" full of automated gadgets, a hippie who lives in an abandoned nuclear missile silo, a retired actress who lives in a treehouse, and a photographer who remodeled his house specifically to suit the needs of his cats. As bizarre as this sounds, and despite the lack of a plot, it actually works. We learn about the people and why they choose to live in the homes that they do. The basic premise is that one's home is a reflection of the owner's personality, which for the most part appears to be true in these cases (odd people really _do_ have odd homes). The film is relatively short (~70 minutes) and never gets boring. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys good documentaries.I'm surprised that they didn't interview this guy (click here ), though.
This is also a great example of how good 16mm blowups can look, especially compared with all the DV and Digibeta stuff that we've had to endure over the last year.

I tried watching 'American Movie' recently, but I found myself getting quite depressed about the people in the doco. They didn't seem to have a brain cell amongst them. Sounds harsh, but I found it very, very draining to watch them try to get a sentence out. It's very rare that I can't deal with subject matter but this was one of those cases.
I am very interested in seeing Chris Smith's previous effort, 'American Job'. If anyone has a tape of that, please let me know. I will pay for shipping! ![[Smile]](smile.gif)
