I haven't seen many movies at this particular theatre, and since I rate presentation quality, I'm using the holidays to distribute my viewings more evenly. So, I chose "The Hot Chick".
This is the typical 2-star dumb comedy. It had many funny things in it, but the movie overall was rather mediocre. You have to suspend common sense and knowledge of how things work in real life, because most of the things that happen would not happen in real life the way they did in the movie. I'm sure better movies have been made about the situation of "What would happen if I suddenly became of the other gender?" I decided to see this one after a 3-star review was printed in the newspaper. Since our newspaper usually runs the most negative review that can be found, I figured this movie must be really good in some way. Nope.
Did anyone else bother seeing this one?
The presentation was excellent. Carmike has finally attempted to calibrate the sound levels of their optical (analog) sound with their digital sound, at least in this auditorium. The analog used to be far lower in volume than the digital, making digital dropouts obvious. Now the analog is slightly louder than the digital. Some ads that did not have digital sound were very loud and harsh. A scope DTS trailer with slight green diagonal scratches on the edge was used in the middle of all flat material, and was played as flat, vertically stretched. Otherwise, the movie presentation was outstanding.
