01/26/2003, Cinemark 17 Springfield OR, 12:45PM, #16, SR•D. Attendance about 50. Excellent presentation, no complaints.

I liked this a lot. An impressive directorial debut by George Clooney. Sam Rockwell is very good in the lead and has the Chuck Barris mannerisms down pat. Who knows how much of this is based on truth, but it doesn't really matter because fact and fiction are woven together in a way that makes a fascinating story. [thumbsup]

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind

I thought this would be of interest to the colorists of the world.

Confessions has some very interesting looks that was completely done =
via color correction in data. The look was first set with the first unit =
HD/SD dailies at Covitec in Montreal, then continued with the second =
unit in LA at Complete Post. That look was then applied to the conformed =
data at the Digital Intermediate stage at Technique. The flashback =
images combine defocus, keying, and desaturated effects for a very =
interesting and different look. I would be very interested in the =
opinions of other colorists seeing this film at the cinema and realizing =
that there is only a color corrector creating these effects and look. =
This is not meant to be a promotion of any one color correction system, =
only to show what can now be done currently and in the future how much =
more will be done in the color correction environment.

The film does have a number of different "looks" to it. Some sequences are flashbacks which have a washed-out, grainy appearance. Or there will be a scene with a dominant color, kind of a burned-sepia look. It was very interesting visually. The soundtrack is well-done too. I liked this enough to pay to see it again. [Smile]
