The plot is thin, the dialogue is insipid, and almost nothing happens. But I loved it, although I can't really explain why.

Go see this now while it is still in theatrical release, as it absolutely demands to be seen on a big screen and will be completely pointless to watch on a TV screen.

A few people will probably understand why I thought that this film was great; most will probably think that I am nuts.

Scott, I am on your side here. I showed this film a couple weeks ago, and I loved it. It's very strange film. Sometimes the pacing and plot (or lack there of) remind me of an Abbas Kiarosrami film, but there's the juxtaposition of at least one scene that plays out like an Abbott and Costello routine. The cinematography is quite beautiful, and I really enjoyed the performances of both Matt Damon and Casey Affleck. I think this could prove to be a movie that enfuriates many but really engages a few.

Here's a frustrating/funny anecdote: A few days after we premiered Gerry (a week and a half before it opened here). Gus Van Sant was here for a Dialogue. After the talk was over, someone from the audience raised her hand to "ask a question." Her question basically descibed the end of the film to an audience of whom perhaps 20% (at best) actually saw it. I thought and hoped that the filmmaker would hint at a reprimand for giving away the ending, but instead, he went further to explain what "really" happened in the end of the film and eliminated some of the ambiguity that could be open to interpretation and speculation.
