"This is the weirdest movie I've ever seen."

"It can't get any weirder."

"It just got weirder."

The above is a good description of this movie. As we followed the story of the dwarves running around through time stealing and then racing off to another part of time, people kept commenting on how this was the wierdest, most bizarre movie they'd ever seen.

Any thoughts from y'all on this one? After seeing, I felt part of my brain had been turned to mush and I couldn't remember much of it very well. It's probably one of those movies you have to see several times.

Some good lines:

"Oh, you must meet them. I just know you'll like them. Charming people. Of course, they haven't got two pennies to rub together, but then, that's because they're poor. "

"Slugs! He created slugs! They can't hear, they can't speak, they can't operate machinery. If I were creating the world, I wouldn't mess about with butterflies and daffodils. I would've started with lasers, eight o'clock, day one."

Evil Genius: "If you're wrong, Benson, my revenge will be slow and unpleasant. I will turn you inside out over a very long period of time."
Benson (Jerold Wells): "Oh, thank you, master, thank you!"

"Oh Benson, dear Benson, you are so mercifully free of the ravages of intelligence."

There is SOOO much going on in this film that multiple viewings are almost mandatory. It was obviously set up for a sequel that never came, which is surprising, as the film made some decent money. David Warner is an absolute hoot as the Devil The part that lays me out every time is the scene where Robin Hoods' men are distributing their loot to the poor. As each wretch approaches to recieve the swag a burly neanderthal punches them in the Head..HARD..And down they go. Robin (John Cleese) puzzeled at this ritual asks His man if that's really necessary. The neanderthal replys in authentic frontier giberish and it's tranlated as "Yes, He's afraid it is". Robin accepts the answer and tells them to "Carry on then". I wouldn't change a frame.

Another good film I haven't seen for a long time. The late George Harrison was involved in it as executive producer I think, which probably means he put up the money. I had this on laser disc, and for its "era" it was one of the better video transfers in my collection, and with good sound too.

Time Bandits has always been a favorite. I loved it when I was a kid, and still love it now. You can see this film's influence in many that followed; Beetlejuice is certainly among them.
