In the wake of 'My Best Friend's Wedding', 'Muriel's Wedding', 'Four Weddings' and a Funeral' and 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' comes a film that might be titled 'Bobo's Wedding' or 'My Mail Order Vietnamese Bride Wedding'.

Fat Pizza is the film version of the popular comedy series screening on SBS here in Australia. For overseas readers, the story centres around a suburban Sydney Pizza Shop (they're fat and they're cheesy) called Fat Pizza and run by an Italian chap who keeps a chain saw under the counter. If you think that Australia is pretty much like what you saw in Kangaroo Jack you are in for a surprise.

Bobo is big and tough but his Italian momma beats him up. He has two workers in his shop namely Pauley, an ex boxer and Slick - a sort of Lebanese love god, at least in his own mind.

There's not much of a plot unfortunately - merely that Bobo is getting married to a mail order Vietnamese bride however as he is too cheap to pay for an airfare they have to come to Australia in a leaky boat as refugees.

Probably the best description of this film is bizarre - seriously bizarre. The style of humour is full on - for the whole film and after about 45 minutes the viewer is exhausted. It is just too much. Basically the whole film is one skit after another. The film could have been improved by a little more light and shade.

Nevertheless there are some very, very funny moments in the film such as Pauley beating up a group of Ronald McDonnie Clowns who have come for a convention. 'Do you want fries with that..?'

And there are plenty of cameos in the film including the late Bernard King, Tim Ferguson, Jeff Fenech, Kamahl as the owner of the Indian Pizza shop competition (Phat Fizza) and Angry Anderson.

I have no idea what overseas critics will make of this film. I suspect they will either love it or hate it.

My verdict: 7.5 stars out of 10.
