From India comes this new film that tells the true story of a young village woman who is seen something of a troublemaker because she dares steps out of her prescribed place. Because she has recently been hired by the government to help minimize or stop the practice of marrying off girls at an early age, she is viewed as lower than dirt. A gang rape is her punishment, and then a corrupt legal system keeps punishing her over and over as she seeks justice.
While the plot mechanics of the movie sometimes plays like a Lifetime movie, the look at a foreign culture comes through here. You do absorb how village life is for these people. Beautiful cinematography adds to the effect.
A good, but not strong recommendation.
