"THE EYE" just opened at The Art House at Restaurant Row" operated by Wallace Theatres here in Honolulu and I am very interested in seeing this movie. I did get to read one newspaper review and it was very favorable. The basic theme of this Chinese film is "I see dead people" and tell the story of how a young woman who was blind since childhood finally has her vision restored and the first thing she see is a ghost of a person who had just died in the same hospital where she was recovering from eye surgery.

I only screened this (last night), but saw bits and pieces.
Some great moments, but my friend that came out said that there were some really boring parts to the film as well.
It looked and sounded great.
My friend also told me that it borrowed heavily from THE SIXTH SENSE and THE RING. when i asked if it was worth catching, he said NO!
I believe this film was made by the same people that made BANGCOCK DANGEROUS, which was much better!

If you enjoy horror films, then by all means see The Eye, which begins with one of the best phony loop loss/film burns I've ever seen (why it does, I don't know, it seems like they just put it in as an afterthought).

Basically, a young woman goes into the hospital for a cornea transplant, and when the bandages come off she finds that she is able to see both ghosts and these other shadowy figures that escort your spirit away after you die. She convinces a friendly doctor to help her out, and they go off to Thailand to find the original donor. There are some good scare moments (the ghosts realize that the woman can see them, and some of them are pissed off), and the final scene of the aftermath of a tanker truck accident is very well conceived and executed. Yes, there are some dull expository spots, but no more than in any other film of this kind. And yes, it is very derivative, the film borrows from The Sixth Sense, Ghost, The Beast With Five Fingers, et al. The young woman who plays the lead is a very good actress, in fact all the acting is pretty good. All in all, it's pretty well made. I'm glad I saw it, and I would recommend it to any fan of the horror/ghost story genre.
