Under the Tuscan Sun came to the little theatre where I live up in Cloverdale this week. It was a suprise for me because this type of film never plays this theatre. So on Veterans Day I went to see it.

The room has 46 seats. There were three ladies and me at the 1:30 PM Tuesday screening. They were suprised to see a man in the audience. This is the type of film that would have done quite well at my theatre if Disney would wake up and figure out how to place films. The presentation was good. The print had been around the block a couple of times.

I'm in love with Diane Lane all over again. This film was beautifully shot and had a good story. I love a good travelogue. It makes you want to travel to Tuscany and buy a villa. My only objection with the film was the Gay Bus sequence. Knowing a few gay men myself, none of them are that flamboyant. They went for the cliche instead. But it was a minor part of the story.

A passable way to spend 2 hours. Would have looked better had it been shot in scope.

I did appreciate one line from her friends after she makes a phone call back to California -- "How do you *69 Italy?"

BV went for arthouse/upmarket theaters on Under the Tuscan Sun. The Clairidge Cinema in Montclair and the Princeton Garden Theatre opened this film on the break. After all, arthouses cannot survive on a steady diet of Miramax. [Big Grin]
