Today, 7:10PM, Bijou Art Cinemas in Eugene, House #1. Attendance about 100. Pre-show consisted of some amusing candid slides, and a short student video. I haven't been to the Bijou for at least a couple of years, and much to my surprise, they've installed "new" seats and Dolby Digital. Unfortunately the combination of very live acoustics in this former mortuary, and thick British accents in the film, makes for dialog that's still a little tough to understand sometimes. Oh well. Overall presentation was acceptable, though they seem to need a film cleaner.

I decided I had to see this after reading Roger Ebert's review, in which he gave it 4 stars, and seeing that the rottentomatoes.com critics' consensus is 90% positive.

This was a light-hearted entertaining story, kid-oriented but satisfying for adults too, as long as they haven't succumbed to complete cynicism. The adjectives "charming" and "delightful" come to mind. Some will be bored by it, most will probably appreciate it for what it is. I liked it.
