I'm looking for some help from people familiar with Denon receivers, particularly the model I mention below.

One of my friends has a Denon AVR-1705 receiver with a set of Klipsch speakers connected. He has a problem with the audio in his left and right speakers. It seems as though the speakers have only high frequency audio coming out of them, and at low volume. The center channel and surround channels sound normal. I can't seem to figure out what could be causing this problem.

The L, R, LS & RS channel speakers are identical (small 8 ohm bookshelf speakers). The center channel speaker is somewhat similar in design, but has two large drivers instead of one. The speakers in the front are connected using Monster Cable. The surrounds are connected with standard (and cheaper) speaker wire.

Overall, it just sounds like the left and right channels are almost missing from just about any 5.1 mix. Is there some kind of crossover setting or tone bypass thing or some other goofy crap that could be causing this?

I liked it. Some would say it was unnecessarily violent, but the fight scenes also had a humorous touch to it. More nudity would have been better though. Overall not bad mindless entertainment.

Besides the fact that it was making me simultaneously sleepy and angry, there was a problem with the sound. I got fed up with it and walked out.

Phase problem? (oops, DSpicer already suggested that). What happens in other non-5.1 modes, like ProLogic and plain old stereo?

For some reason this is in the wrong forum so someone will move it soon. But til the a couple of questions. Did you friend unhoo the speaker cables for any reason and put them back on out of phase. Has your friend tried switching wires putting the left or right channel to the center and putting the center to one of the left or rights to see if anything changes.

I must disagree with Michael. This movie flat out sucked. And who names their kid "Denon"??? Hollywood at it's worst.

I think I will move this into the proper forum.
