The latest "not too funny" film starring Steve Martin. Its obvious that he thinks he can rekindle his career by using the PANTHER to generate sequels. Don't get me wrong, there are a few great lines and site gags, but even having Beyounce sing isn't going to save this garbage. Why did it get a PG rating, and not a PG13???? Its got a handful of somewhat nasty sexual suggestive scenes in it. Peter Sellers must be rolling over in his grave. This should have been direct to video, since its been shelved for awhile. [thumbsdown]

Airplane! and Sixteen Candles both had scenes featuring bare breasts, yet were rated PG. Milk does a body good!

The Pink Panther was shot flat and looks like a made for video release. I probably won't see any of it until it plays on HBO.

Even the lame 'Trail' and 'Curse' were scope.

It did pretty well over the opening weekend considering the Olympics and all. But I predict a fast fade.

I have enjoyed most of Steve Martins Films , but this one not.

I thought it was terrible , the attempts at slapstick were awfull the jokes were very weak . I put it in the same box as date movie.

With Steve being the man these days, they ought to do a sequel to Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, I've always loved that one. Funny how panther was supposed to be a huge bomb and it's probably made a profit and then some already.

The distributors here in the UK were apparently so scared of bad reviews they didn't even run any press screenings [Roll Eyes]

i saw the trailer it looks to be a pile of [bs]

I liked it more than I thought I would. Martin is obviously just imitating Peter Sellers and doesn't really nail it, but who could? It's kind of funny to see the voices and goofy mannerisms from his old comedy act come through once in a while.

And the movie has a nice Greco factor with Beyonce.

2.5 out of 5 for me. An extra half-star for the opening animation which holds up to the series.

Its an ok film. I never really liked the original films with Sellers as I felt he did not do slapstick very well - arguably Martin does a better job but then Martin's attempt at a French accent is hopeless. So its just an ok film.

I would like to see somebody fund a Pink Panther film using French actors speaking english. That would be more authentic and would find an audience in both France and elsewhere.

I would use Christian Clavier in the lead role as I think he could do slapstick well.

I actually thought that Steve Martin was trying to play the character differently than Peter Sellers did ... likewise Kevin Kline/Herbert Lom. I found their (Martin's & Kline's) choices interesting, and, I think necessary, but I think that is where some people had problems ... because it wasn't a direct copy of the Edwards/Sellers series.

...but as Mike says, how can anybody live up to that shadow? The original Pink Panther series (like it or not) was quite unique.

I don't know, I think the absurdity of Peter Sellers - a Brit, and Herbert Lom - a Czech, playing French inspectors speaking English is part of what made the original films so funny. If somebody were to try to make a less absurd version, by casting French actors as French detectives, then I would rather the spoken language be French.

OK... had the misfortune of running this at the weekend at the Galaxy Outdoor...

This has, IMHO, got to go down as one of the WORST films ever to have the misfortune to reach celuloid. Having said that...there was more than one person in the audience laughing their heads off. Granted...most of them were under the age of 12 and had no idea that waht they were seeing was a VERY poor imitation of what has come before.

Blake Edwards really messed up when he made Trail, Curse and Son Of The Pink Panther...but even he did make every other one and they were brilliant. Yes, even Revenge...

I'm really not sure what they were thinking when they did this. There are some glaring errors in the Clouseau character from Steve Martin...to the point where I wonder if he's ever bothered to watch a Peter Sellers version at all, or if he did it was Trail.

I like Steve Martin, but he's now entered the realm of Chevy Chase. An incredibly talented and gifted comedian who had succomed to starring in bad movies for a quick buck. If Chevy EVER got a decent script...I'd be there. Heck, his cameo in Orange County was worth the price of admission alone.

This movie sucked big time. I came home straight after and put on my DVD of the original PP. Sellers spun the globe and fell off it onto the floor and I laughed my head off...something I didn't do for the entire 93 tedious minutes of the new version.
