Although it wasn't the widely grinning satire I'd hope would get me really laughing, Eckhart did well at playing the egotistical Nick Naylor character flawlessly. I really laughed hard at Rob Lowe's assistant & the "all-american snack", those were worth the moderately paced drama. The allegory was also well-reserved & never got more preachy than you've already been preached at about smoking.

But Katie Holmes is not a big breasted Irish girl. Someone deserves a job change at Fox for putting her in the reporter role.

No trailers or ads at Uptown for the 12:30 show on Friday afternoon. That was a welcome change, but the dim, wandering light & dirty screen have still been overlooked by Landmark. Never kicked into SRD either, but at least it was pulled out of trailer A type [Frown]

It was as if Katie Holmes was never in this movie... yeah, she plays a role... but she did a heck of a better job playing the chick on Dawson's Creek.

I agree that Eckhart did a pretty good job, I liked the character from the start... Something about a charismatic jerk makes things all more attractive. Adam Brody received plenty of laughs from the audience, he seems to play similar roles so I was used to it. I loved every time the "MOD Squad" meets up [Cool]

it sort of added well to the main character's background.

As for the story itself, I enjoyed it. It allowed me to waste 2 hours... and it was worth it. Something people should probably wait until DVD though...

Anyone else get a note about the change from reel two to three. It was prety straight forward I thought. Was this just due to that incident of the cut Katie Holmes scene?

Probably.

I wouldn't have cut there anyways; the fade-in after the cut to black comes up in the film left between the platter and the reel on the MUT...

The First Church of the Auditorium 12 is rolling their great big Anvil equipment case (it's bigger than a side-by-side fridge) out of the building. They sure are dressed casual for an Easter Sunday service. I mean, sure I'm in a crappy T-shirt and shorts, but I'm not going to church either.

As we enter the auditorium, Wife #1 notes the slide ad on the screen is positioned way off to the right. She also later notes that it never changes. It's just fifteen minutes of the same slide. Don't you hate it when people nitpick about the moviegoing experience like that?

The audience, numbering around 40-ish, had a good time. Lots of casual laughs. Not a terribly witty movie, but it moves along nicely and knows when to drop a laugh in. Nothing slayed anybody, but I doubt anybody hated the thing either.

Wife #1 noted as we were leaving..."Did you notice that nobody in the movie was ever actually smoking?"

Honestly, I hadn't. But I believe that's correct.

I would agree with the above comments that the movie is not quite as intelligent as I was hoping. I was also expecting it to be more of a comedy.

Overall though, I think it is pretty good. Interesting characters with a fair amount of character development. Rob Lowe's character was pretty interesting. I hate this dumb guy that played his assistant. I hate him almost as much as the kid from orange county, Tom Hank's son.
