After I had built-up this movie & previewed it, I was pretty impressed by this film. Though it's a remake, I have to say that it was well acted and was happy to see Veronica Cartwright in this film. Nicole Kidman, though, is my favorite actress and she did a wonderful job in this movie. The film was, in my opinion, well made and acted.

Saw this Tuesday the 14th at the Rocky Mountain Theatre Convention, at the fairly new Cinemark 8 in Helena, MT. I liked it all right, but no desire to watch it again. My wife enjoyed it about the same, I think. Neither of us had never seen the original movie so this was fresh to us.
Outside of the film starting with the wrong lens, the presentation was good (not sure what sound format, but whatver Cinemark uses in their new builds.)
3 out of 5 stars for me.

I haven't seen this yet, but I've mostly read bad reviews, which surprised me because unlike a lot of movies, I always though that it lent itself very well to being remade -- the story itself is very simple and easy to adapt different times, places or situations. So I'm planning on seeing it to find out if it's getting bad reviews just because critics have grown accustomed to trashing remakes (with good reason), or because the film-makers actually did something so wrong that it messed up a movie that should be so easy to remake well.

2 out of 5 stars. Lots of loose ends left hanging. Lots of holes in the script. Ok way to spend 2hrs.
