CINEMA: 13th Avenue Warren, Wichita, KS
AUDITORIUM: 11
PRESENTATION: 35mm/Mystery Meat Digital/THX
PRESENTATION PROBLEMS: Slightly shaky, out of focus picture
RATING: Three stars (out of four)
WARNING: "Plenty of people are onto the emptiness, but it takes real guts to see the Spoilers."
GUY IN BATHROOM AFTER SHOW sees a friend and says hello.
"What movie did you see?"
"We saw that dog hotel movie."
"Oh. We saw that Revolutionary War..uh Road...chick flick."
Really? Chick flick?
THE PLOT: Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet plan a transatlantic voyage. What could POSSIBLY go wrong? Wackiness ensues.
This is a story about a woman trying to pull her husband, and herself, out of a rut. They're so involved in their own self-pity, their children may as well not have even had credited names. You could ultimately almost call it the anti-chick flick. I saw a lot of parallels to my own parents in this movie, actually.
Mendes did a good job of delivering a slow, yet desperate tone. Well done.

I saw this one at the AFI/Silver in Silver Spring, MD. Projection and Sound were tops, natch.
I think Sam called it pretty much right but for me... at best 2 out of 5 stars...as a movie, it did nothing for me though it was well made.

Every time I walk past this auditorium all I see are Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet arguing. Yeah. Gotta see that.
The director desperately tries to reunite nearly the entire Titanic cast in a pathetic attempt at bringing in an audience. Also, what fool casts his own wife? A die hard nepotist, that's who! Would have been better if Bill Paxton was in it.
