There's probably a thread on the "original" release of this but I suppose the 3-D version deserves a thread of its own, especially considering it has "new" content (the opening short, "Partysaurus Rex").

Of all the Pixar movies that would benefit from a 3-D conversion, this one is it. The underwater scenes are terrific in 3-D. The slightly darker picture doesn't hurt things at all because in the ocean, it's supposed to be darker. At least, it didn't bug me at all and I figured that was the possible reason.

Obviously, this movie doesn't NEED 3-D at all -- it's my favorite Pixar film. I think it has the funniest ending of all of the Pixars.

The opening short, "Partysaurus Rex," is hilarious. And the animation is just outstanding. I suspect anybody who buys the eventual DVD or Blu-Ray from this release will see their kids playing this short just as often, or maybe even more often, than the movie itself.

Having said all that, the movie is grossing horribly. I'm surprised, given its popularity -- but that popularity is probably what's causing it. Everyone's likely got one or two copies of this movie at home already, whereas last year's "Lion King" re-issue benefited from being a much older movie -- not as many copies lying around, maybe.

I thought this movie looked really bland color wise. Maybe I'm mis-remembering, but I know the film version was on Vision Premier stick and from what I remember the colors were bright and rich - just like Pixar movies usually are. But the digital 3D version looked really muted to me.

That may be, but the picture seemed plenty bright enough. It just looked washed out and dull. Kind of like turning the "color" and "contrast" down on a TV and turning the "brightness" up. It looked like crap. I'm just wondering if that was the movie or was it more likely the projector wasn't up to par? This was a Regal running a Sony 4K projector.

Could have also been that strange two-lens system that REALD and SONY concocted for the LCOS projector.

I hate it when AMC Tyson's ETX screen don't calibrate/merge the two Christie projectors correctly - 'Finding Nemo' looked terrible - a lot of double imaging - close up shots though looked decent. The 7.1 audio didn't impress me, my 6.1 DTS DVD has better surround sound separation. The bass though, notably inside the whale and Darla thwacking on the glass - had tremendous oomph.

The problem here in Oz is that it was released outside of school holidays. WTF? Seriously, who did they think was going to come and see this? The unemployed?
