RATING: Two and one half stars (out of four)

THE PLOT: A guy dons a mask because...I don't know. They explained it, but it was too boring to follow. Wackiness ensues.

The big finale is freaking awesome. From the point where the classic music hits while the Lone Ranger is riding his horse, this movie fires on all cylinders.

But that's the last twenty minutes. The previous two hours are a mess. Plausibility-wise, this movie reminds me a lot of the two Sherlock Holmes flicks. Texas looks WAY too much like Utah. The original east-west transcontinental railroad didn't go through Texas. And machine guns? They spent a quarter of a billion on this silliness?

Depp has the only memorable character and plays it for comic relief.

Still, it was better than I expected it to be. Which is to say I thought it was going to be awful.

this movie seriously could have used a competent editor - it needed to be twenty minutes shorter - not sure what the point or reason we needed the storybook 'Tonto narrating the story to the kid' aspect of the film was necessary.

I did check this out over at the Bow Tie Reston BTX screen and was quite impressed. Technically the film looks and sound impressive.

The ending train sequence is the stand out scene from the entire movie: one word, 'wow'!
