It's been 4 years between drinks for the Cloudy Meatballs crew which bodes well for a sequel as it smacks of not rushing in to cash in on the success of the first film. The result is a fun film which references it's predecessor in just the right amounts whilst remaining fresh and funny.

This time around we see our hero, Flint Lockwood, employed by his childhood (though, as it turns out, nefarious) idol, Chester V, and tasked once again with destroying his food creating creation which apparently wasn't quite destroyed at all in the previous film. You see, the FLDSMDFR (AKA Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator) has gone even crazier than before and has started creating "living food"; sentient foodstuffs which have taken over Flint's island home, Swallow Falls.

As expected, the food puns fly thick and fast amidst the watermelophants, tacodiles and shrimpanzees and other fun "living food" creations - clearly the designers had a blast making this! The narrative pace is brisk, the action never lets up and the jokes keep flowing, keeping the kiddies amused throughout. Adults are kept amused too with the film borrowing heavily from Jurassic Park with plentiful loving nods to other films such as TRON.

Overall, Cloudy Meatballs 2 bears fruit, fulfilling it's brief in providing fun-filled holiday entertainment.

7.5 out of 10

While it wasn't as good as the first one, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was colorful, used 3D well, and was fast paced.
