Rio 2 is just ok, but it's not nearly as good as the first Rio, which I like quite a lot.
Gabby the Poisonous Frog is by far the best character in this movie next to Blu himself. The babysitting scene with Tiny at the beginning is a hoot, too.
They really went out of their way to try to drag all of the supporting characters from the first movie into this one.

I share your opinion, this movie was "just OK". The last one might not have been as great as Pixar in its heydays but it was funny and also connected on an emotional level (read: you went all soft afterwards).

To me it looks like their 3D tech has sufficiently evolved to compete with Pixar and Dreamworks Animation on the highest level, but story-wise, there are still some gaps to fill.

Agreed on all counts.
I wonder why they always think it's necessary to bring back ALL of the supporting characters even if the storyline would be better off with different characters? Heck, Indiana Jones proved that 30 years ago.
