PRESENTATION: Warren Grand Infinity 4K Freaking Laser Beam Digital/Dolby ATMOS/THX with Pre-Show Curtain Opening Ceremony Spectacular
PRESENTATION PROBLEMS: None [Cool]

RATING: Two and one half stars (out of four)

Walk in and everything is immediately familiar, yet subtley nicer with color enhancements largely through LED lighting accents. The auditorium entrance area in front of the Grand rooms has nice metal ceiling tiles. Stuff like that.

But walk into one of the Infinity Grand rooms and there's lots of changes. Once you get over the new decor, you'll notice the Cinerama-level curve of the screen. It's ridiculous and looks terrible from the first few rows, but gets better midway back. And you probably want to sit back a bit to get the full effect of the ATMOS anyway. Every seat has its own set of armrests. That's right...there's two armrests between each seat. The laser projector is mounted on the balcony ledge. Image below.

As Bobby predicted, there's a curtain opening ceremony. It puts the IMAX one to shame. It changes colors. There's rotating spotlights. They project stars on it. They played the ENTIRE "STAR WARS" fanfare through it. Then the curtains open left-to-right split from the middle.

Oh...they also played a movie.

THE PLOT: uh...a Fugitive reboot? Wackiness ensues.

I never watched the first two "Taken" movies, but found this one to work just fine as a standalone feature. Unlike many recent action flicks, the beginning and end tie together pretty well. Forrest Whitaker should have had more to do here, though.

Nothing great, but not a bad way to kill the afternoon.

Yeah, yeah...enough about the movie...

What about the image on that deep-curve screen?!?!?!? How did they deal with the geometric issues of projecting digitally on that screen? How rectangular are the rectangles? How was the focus and light distribution?

I'm with Steve here. This auditorium is far more interesting than the movie being reviewed.

Sam - please open a new thread dedicated to this auditorium in the digital forum and let's keep this thread for anyone that wants to comment about the movie.

Almost can tell that someone knew how to design a cinema that needs to operate with digital projection.

Not this, "after the fact" stuff that comes out on occasion.

so I gather the laser projector doesn't make a lot of noise compared to standard digital DLP projectors.
