Theater 9: Digital IMAX

I haven't seen an IMAX show at this theater since Interstellar. I thought Interstellar was too loud. Dunkirk was even louder, if that's possible. I regretted not having earplugs.

The movie is so immersive that it's painful to watch. But that's as Nolan intended. On that scale I have to give it a 10, but it's not for everyone.

The presentation was fine, probably as good as LieMax can be. It was pretty obvious when scenes were shot in 65mm vs something else (presumably 35mm). The 65mm Image detail & clarity stand out. Floating aspect ratio not too distracting. Interestingly, the 35mm material sometimes had "negative splices" visible at the bottom edge of the frame, reminiscent of scope film with improperly cut plates (I guess -- you tell me).

Not recommended, but also a must-see in a good theater.

David, the whole movie was shot in 65mm. 5 perf vertical and 15 perf horizontal.

I stand corrected. I hadn't researched it fully before posting and my impression from seeing the movie was that some of it was not 65mm.

The aspect ratio was varying between 1.90 and 2.20 (according to the interwebs). The negative splices were visible only on the 2.20 shots. Not all of them but enough to catch my eye.

question - is the IMAX laser version 12-channel, the Smithsonian certainly claims it is?
