PRESENTATION PROBLEMS: None [Cool]

RATING: Three stars (out of four)

THE PLOT: A girl is induced into a coma and her ex-boyfriend gets all guilty and shit. Wackiness ensues.

Kumail is Pakistani. His parents (mother specifically) parades an endless number of girls through dinners for him to fall in love with. Because marriages are arranged and stuff.

He falls for Emily, who is not Pakistani and who he met at a comedy club. They are adorable. They have fun. Right up until she finds his box of pictures of all these girls Mom brings through. They break up because his family would disown him if he married someone not Pakistani. Then she gets sick and is induced into a coma. And while she's in a coma, he deals with shit and...oh go watch it yourself.

Holly Hunter and Ray Romano, who play Emily's parents, are really great in this.

even though it's produced by Judd Apatow it thankfully doesn't lag like Judd's own movies. One of my faves of the year (so far)

This is probably the perfect example of how you can achieve main-stream appeal without a $100M budget.

The venue we visited was kind enough to show a few minutes of extra and behind the scenes material after the main show, in which you get to know the real-life Emily. The real-life Kumail you already know. [Wink]
