In the past couple of weeks AMC stock (which was at $32.00 a share a scant two (2) years ago)has now dropped to about the 3.00 per share level. I guess that about sums up Wall Street's view of the megaplex mania follies!

GC's stock went from $32 a share to the teens. I believe $18. And they are the only company of the top five that haven't lost a pot full of money. Not to say they have not lost money, but not as much as their competitors.

Carmike is bouncing between 3 and 3 1/2 right now. You know what else? They are 473 MILLION dollars in debt, with 163 MILLION of that due in 2002. They're only making interest payments, btw.

I think I remember hearing somewhere that AMC is going bankrupt. Can't say anything more on the topic then that. Don't quote me on that though. Could just be one of those crazy rumors...

There was an article in the Kansas City Star last week (July 25) about AMC's financial situation. KDP Investments states that AMC Entertainment Inc has a 25 percent chance of defaulting on it's debt. They aren't alone, the four largest theatre companies as a group have lost $340 million in their most recent fiscal years. That's Regel, Loews. AMC and Carmike.The US is just too over populated with theatres right now and they are killing the industry. The numbers I have heard are that there should be around 28,000 screen in the US and there is more like 35,000 or 37,000 right now.
Also don't forget that United Artists has been on the verge of bankruptcy for a while now, but still continues of operate normally.

Here's my solution to the problem. When DLP comes along all the megaplexes should chop down the wall between two of their "bitch" auditoriums making one bigger one. Would reduce the number of screens ; P Or maybe if hollywood wouldn't come up with such trash!

On Wed Aug 2 Carmike stock lost another 1.75 a share to close at $1.50 per share. The 52 week high was 15.00 a share. I certainly hope none of the employees have their 401ks in the company stock!
