The Planet Movies experiment failed today with the closing of Planet Hollywood and the All-Star Cafe.

Planet Movies was an experiment conceived in the glory days of multiplex building, where a 30-plex theatre is combined with a Planet Hollywood restaurant and an All-Star cafe. The plan was for the restaurants to feed the theatre, and the theatre to feed the restaurants. The facility is a large shopping mall in Columbus OH called Easton, financed by the owner of the Limited clothing empire.

Both restaurants announced their immediate closing today. I would assume the memorabilia around the giant lobby will be packed up and sent back. (I wasn't much impressed with what was there...it was rather routine stuff, such as costumes and small set pieces. Arnold himself DID donate a tank, though.)

AMC has not announced plans for the now empty space. Indications are that it will be converted to retail.
