I am currently looking for a wide area vacuum for the "acreage" of carpet that we have at our complex. Does anyone have any knowledge or recommendations as to what brand is the best. I would appreciate any initial costs, maintenance problems, and upkeep costs.

ADVANCE makes a very good commercial vacuum sweeper. If taken care of, they last a very long time. However, they are quite pricey.

The Merchandise Mart in Chicago uses small Street sweepers to clean the many blocks of carpeting they have. You might consider that.
