It's been announced that Connecticut-based Crown Theaters has come on board to operate a 15 screen+IMAX 'plex at the new Queensway Bay waterfront project here in Long Beach. Crown replaces the bankrupt Edwards chain which bailed out of the project.The news blurb says Crown has 134 screens all on the east coast of the US. Anyone here know them? How do they do, quality-wise on their theater design and presentation quality?

Funny, the Long Beach project is now being questioned/delayed by the California Coastal Commission on the grounds that a multiplex development in the proposed location will be bad for the shoreline. A shoreline that already sports an aquarium, a hotel/convention center complex, and a marina/restaurant complex in the immediate vicinity directly across from the Queen Mary... all inside the Long Beach breakwater. Paul, any chance of your stepping into a theatre and reporting the skinny on "Pearl Harbor" in Japan? (Not just the film cuts and mods, but how the film is received.)As for Crown, Chris Dugger works for Crown. He's one of the good guys.

Never thought of it. Found out today I'm not due in Japan for another three months (nice unplanned three month vacation 
), so we'll see how the timing works out. The film I'm dying to see over there is the new Studio Ghibli anime film due out in mid-July. The Miyazaki-directed Ghibli films always do well so hopefully this one will still be in its roadshow release when I get there (the last one Mononoke Hime did seven months and $157 million in roadshow!).In the mean time, anyone need a rusty-on-platters/great-on-changeovers projectionist in SoCal for the next couple of months or so???

The company I work for services Crown Theatres in the Annapolis, MD area. (Gordon, your projectors are running ;-))Their new booths are pretty much a Neumade/Xetron package so base you opinions on that (we all have our likes and dislikes). The new projectors are Ernaman via Neumade.
All of the digitals are represented...SDDS (8-channel) for the big houses, DTS and Dolby Dig. evenly split among the rest. Also better than half of the screens are THX approved on the new theatres. Even Surround-EX is there on all of the THX screens.
Speakers are JBL.
I would say you could do far worse than going to a Crown theatre though their current policy snipe is enough to go postal!
