In a very limited scope I was just wondering how many theatre managers, assistant managers, and yes, maybe even a projectionist or two, have business cards. It might sound silly, but I have cards simply because I also sell onscreen slide advertisments for our theatre. In a way they're good because the card helps people remeber my name and it also identifies me as a projectionist, so would-be customers do take the time to talk particulars and do not just treat me as just a bothersome salesman. In a way they suck because co-workers laugh at me for having a stack in the operators' desk and passing them out to anyone who shows the slightest interest in the slides.For those of you who do have cards . . .
Does your company require them or do you get them for professional reasons? About how many do you give out in a year? And the most important question: Are they worth having in this business? So I'll start this by saying professional reasons, 10-15 per year, and I'm not sure but it sure helps people spell my last name!

I have business cards, the company made them for me, however when they run out I am on my own i guess... I usually hand them out by the ton during ShoWest, rarely at any other time, I also stick one on each sound rack I install, so people know who to call

There once was a time when a business card was left in the sound head to check the exciter before each show. Long ago. Back in the days of oily business cards.

Many Kodak people have business cards that have their photograph on them. People really appreciate that, as it helps link faces to names. Most any camera store or professional photographer can supply business cards with a color photo. Or you can even use a computer to make your own cards and print them onto KODAK Premium Inkjet Business Card stock:

I think that all Managers, assistant managers, projectionists should have cards. When you attend meetings it helps to know who all the players are. I know that when I was managing theatres and when it was technical meeting I would bring a projectionist with me. It was always helpful to hand out and receive cards.

Interesting that this came up - I'm in the process of organising some for myself. I'm a full-time projectionist, and the reason I want a business card is that when meeting people - either socially or professionally - then I want a fast and easy way to give my contact details to someone. I should not be looking for the empty corner of used napkins and a pen - it doesn't go down too well. Also, you can get into many trade shows and exhibitions free of charge as 'trade' if you have one - a useful benefit. SMPTE 2001 in Sydney is approaching, by the way.
Lastly, as Aaron pointed out, it's quite unique to have 'projectionist' printed on your card - it's a little bit different which helps people to remember you. In addition, I want people to think of projection as a profession, and a business card helps to propegate that image in my opinion.

I am a General Manager and for professional reasons I usually give out 10-20 per year. They are particularly good for those drop a business card raffles, I recently won a dinner for 2.

I have a stack of them on my cash register. Mine have my theater's web address on them so when people want to know how to contact us or where to find our schedule, I hand them a card. i go thru about 1000 a year.
