Star Wars episode II trailer to be attached to Monsters Inc.....According to WWW.cinecon.com it is 99.9% a sure thing...Lets hope it is a good one.

I still dont know if id trust it.
I dont know the site so i dont know how reliable they are, but i try to stay away from the rumor mill and not rely on any information until i see something official either from the star wars site or from disney.

I also would rather not see this trailer for the first time on a flat film, even if it is letterboxed.

I know from a very reliable and confident source that the "Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones" Will premiere with "Monster's Inc." but it will be enclosed with the print rather than attached.

The word from GL is that the trailer has not even been cut yet. He will oversee it personally as he wants it to be what he envisions it to be. He up until this last week or two has been deep into the DVD release. He hasn't even thought about it until now.

His word is that when it is ready it is ready, and not until then. The movie doesnt hit until May of next year so he isn't in any rush to make a bad trailer.

As to if it is going to be on Monsters Inc or not, it would have to be ready and done, but if monsters is in flat, forget it. It will be so I would take a wait and see attitude.

What kind of a deal do you suppose would need to be struck for Disney/Buena Vista to cut a trailer for a 20th Century Fox film onto the head of their big 4th quarter release?

Inquiring minds want to know!!

Posted by Chase Taylor (Member # 778) on 10-13-2001, 12:43 PM:

"Peter Pan II: Return to Neverland" is the attached trailer.

Posted by Mike Blakesley (Member # 26) on 10-13-2001, 03:01 PM:

The trailer will be enclosed if anything. NOT attached. So that means my theatre doesn't have a prayer of getting it. So I don't give a rat's patoot what they do.

'Star' and 'Wars'...two words that just send me to sleep now.

I agree with you, John

Star Wars=big yawn

I hate all of the star wars movies..They are just horse operas in disguise.

Ok an update on possable Star Wars episode II trailers....Cinema Confidential WWW.cinecon.com is now reporting that there will be a trailer with Harry Potter also....They say it will be attached but I would say it will be in the can......Harry potter is scope so if this is true there is your chance to see it in it's fullness......

Well, according to dvd.starwars.com(those who own the DVD of Ep.I can enter the site), there will be something big on 11/09/01 on that site. There has been quite a bit speculation and assumption that it will be the Ep. II trailer. We will see...

Darryl S: Don't rely on those fanzine sites. Disney corporate will NEVER allow a 20th Century Fox trailer to be attached to any Disney, Touchstone, or Miramax print. AOL Time Warner corporate will NEVER allow a 20th Century Fox trailer to be attached to any Warner Bros., New Line, or Fine Line print.

Ummmmm.... I wasn't aware that horses had operas. And if they did, how would that relate to Star Wars?

Shallow Hal comes out the 9th of November.

Its 20th Century Fox.

As stated above "check the DVD site for a big surprise on 11/9".

Hmmm...

Otherwise, they'll just ship them out in certain allocations, like last time.

How about we not speculate which print the trailer will be on until we hear something OFFICIAL from the STAR WARS website.

Not trying to tell people what to and what not to post; just a suggestion.

Posted by Darryl Spicer (Member # 711) on 10-19-2001, 08:03 PM:

Well, Everything is speculation until it is official....i will say I have been to the star wars site and it sucks so who knows if anything will be announced on it....my feeling has always been when the movie comes in and there is a trailer for star wars in it then I guess that is as official as it can get.....

As far as attached trailers are concerned. I am fully aware of how the system works should be after 17 years of putting films together.

Oh and never say NEVER!

Joe -

"Horse opera" is an old fashioned term for a Western.

Which is what the SW movies are (the first 3, at least).

Apparently, Steve Jobs himself told his Pixar employees at the cast-and-crew screening of "Monsters, Inc." that the trailer for Star Wars Episode II would be on Monsters.

Here's the link: http://www.theforce.net/episode2/index.html#12787

This all comes down to a "believe it when I see it" deal. Internet sites that are not official sites are rampant with rumors, innuendo, and manufactured so called evidence. Notice on this link that they made light of the fact that they didnt record the trailer, because they didnt want to get in trouble. They only recorded the so called announcement.

It may be true, it may not be. When the prints come, we will know. You would think that if it were so, they would want to start telling people this so as to build even more buzz around the release. Remember that when it was BIG DADDY i believe that had the first trailer, the studio pushed that fact very hard as to get people out.

Another thought on this, since the studio put it on BIG DADDY and then pushed it, dont you think that they would want to put it on another big loser film in order to build that films business? Monsters Inc is already guaranteed 350 million, so why bother with it? Put it on a loser film like last time and force that one into the 100 million plus category.

Just a thought...

Dave

Big Daddy? I thought it was Meet Joe Black that had the first trailer for Episode one. Also if I remember right, wasn't there stories of people buying tickets for Joe Black, watching the Star Wars trailer and then leaving before the movie even started?

Posted by Zach Zagar (Member # 379) on 10-26-2001, 01:34 AM:

It wasn't attached to any movies released!!!!

The ONLY Fox movie out at that time was, The Seige.

At any rate, the theater I worked at, at the time, was sent a UPS Next Day package, and it had a label of some made-up movie on the package. Then, we opened it up, and voila, 9 Star Wars:Episode 1 trailers.

But yes, people would buy tickets to movies, and then leave. I bet they learned their lesson from the last one...

Thanks Jar-Jar.

Zach
That made up title you mentioned for Ep. I was "She Stood Alone". You are right, it was not attached to anyhthing at all. I was running a 6 screen at the time and we received 6 trailer total...3 flat and 3 scope. Since I only had one digital house at the time, I placed the trailer on the print playing in the digital house. That was great, I was doing a promotion for RugRats and I put the trailer on that print to drive up the sales for that movie.
Anyhoo, I expect Lucas to do the same thing again with the promo items. There will be bogus titles to throw off any would be thieves. This was also done for the original trilogy when they were re-released in '97. Those titles were 6969, 7171 and 7373 respectively.

Er. . .If you search your memory I think you'll find that the trailer for Star Wars Episode One was attached to the head of Wing Commander which was released 3/12/99. I clearly remember folks lined up at the manager's desk for refunds after exiting the theater on this. . .

Also fueling the speculation is Big Media -- who when they're not warmongering are pushing lots of corporate hype. Three years ago Big Media wanted to know which movies were playing the Episode 1 trailer. The theaters should have told Big Media, "We do not give that information out to the press. End of story!" As it turned out Episode 1 opened big and fell off big -- thanks to all the excessive hype by Big Media. I saw Episode 1 on its first official day (Loews New Brunswick NJ, 12:30 PM show) and it was as if I were in the studio audience for a sitcom.

Mark O: IIRC, Lucasfilm ordered Fox not to attach the Episode 1 trailer to Wing Commander.

Saw today on CNN's scrolling footer that Episode 2 WILL be on Monsters, Inc.

A close friend of mine has Monster's Inc., for a promotional/critic screening of the film. Apparently the trailer is a teaser and contains constant breathing and no other sounds. Weird if you ask me.

Posted by Joshua Voorhies (Member # 824) on 10-27-2001, 04:38 AM:

The Episode 2 trailer is just a teaser, and a pretty disappointing one at that. It's :30 of Darth Vader's breathing as they briefly show the various characters.

Posted by Greg Anderson (Member # 235) on 10-27-2001, 08:55 AM:

Sounds like a great "teaser." Since this movie needs absolutely no advertising to ensure a big audience, all they really need to do is announce the date of release. After Lucasfilm took so much unfounded criticism for creating too much hype for the previous film, this seems like a logical response.

Posted by Mike Jones (Member # 522) on 10-27-2001, 07:32 PM:

This is what I understand to be true...although I could care less because I *HATE* this movie:

November 2 - 30 Second Teaser in the can with Monsters Inc.
November 9 - Special trailer available on the website that can only be accessed with the Episode One DVD.
November 16 - Full trailer in the can with Harry Potter.

So, Star Wars fans, that gives you 3 different trailers within two weeks time.

Big Daddy came out in 1999...after star wars....the one you are thinking of is The Waterboy....Yes the only print to have Star Wars attached was Wing Commander. Whats funny is we were told to remove it after the first weekend.....

Posted by Michael Gonzalez (Member # 593) on 10-27-2001, 10:14 PM:

A teaser with heavy breathing huh? It reminds me of the great teaser for Austin Powers 2.

Posted by James R. Hammonds, Jr (Member # 673) on 10-28-2001, 11:54 PM:

Actually, I just downloaded the trailer and its more than jusr heavy breathing.
There is no dialog or narration, but there are some action sequences and shots of all the characters with the Star Wars music playing underneath.
A lot better that what Steve and Josh deacribed.
Funny note....Christopher Walken is in the trailer and is credited at the end of the trailer, but is not listed on the IMDB as being in the movie.

Here's the information on the trailer [as poster on theforce.net]:

"Attached to Reel 1 of "Monsters, Inc." are "Return To Neverland" Trailer #2, "Breathing" Teaser A EP 2 and "For The Birds" (total running time of all attachments, 6 minutes). In licensing "Monsters, Inc." your theatre promised that each exhibition of "Return TO Neverland" Trailer #2 "Breathing" Teaser A EP 2 and "For The Birds" will directly and immediately precede "Monsters, Inc." with no intervening material or interruption of any kind. Furthermore, the license agreement prohibits cutting or altering the print.
"Return To Neverland" Trailer #2, "Breathing" Teaser A EP 2 and "For the Birds" are licensed to be exhibited only with "Monsters, Inc." and shall not be exhibited alone or with any other picture. This material has been delivered to you as a print, must be exhibited and maintained as one print, and must be returned as one print.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES seperate the exhibition of "Return To Neverland" Trailer #2, "Breathing" Teaser A EP 2 and "For the Birds" from "Monsters, Inc."

Any Violation of these requirements is a breach of copyright license and copyright infringement.

We have instructed our representatives to verify the exhibition of the print as required above.

Maybe the breathing trailer is just for Monsters Inc. and the one I have is the one that will play with other titles?

James

Are you sure that it was Christopher Walken not Christopher Lambert?

CL is listed on a number of sites as being in Ep 2 whereas I have seen similar sites state categorically that CW is not in it..

But as we know nothing with Lucas is ever simple

Its hard for me to keep my adam sandler loser films separate from each other.

I dont recall it bieng attached to Wing Commander, however there was big national news of where you could see the preview at. Yes people were buying tickets and then leaving after the preview.

The information posted by Paul is correct--the threatening letter is on a large piece of cardboard and is stuffed in the shipping cases with the print. See the post in "feature info and trailer attachments" for the rest of the huge quantity of attached/enclosed stuff that is being shipped with Monsters.

Posted by Steven Pickles (Member # 785) on 10-29-2001, 01:56 PM:

James...

The trailer you downloaded is completely bogus. Whoever put that together did a very good job at clipping scenes from other movies (Braveheart, Last of the Mohicans, among others). Some of it may have been real but I just don't believe it because I don't see why Lucasfilm would produce a trailer with exactly the same scene as "The Last of the Mohicans" (105:35-105:40 through the DVD). The Braveheart reference comes when there is a crowd of people running with Light Sabres... and dressed in Medieval clothing with sheilds. Nothing adds up.

You know, I watched the trailer again and I think youre right.
I should have realized that the first time when it didnt say ATTACK OF THE CLONES anywhere in it.
Also, the credit screen does look a bit fake.
It appears Ive been had.
Oh well.

Posted by Greg Anderson (Member # 235) on 10-30-2001, 02:13 AM:

Who claims to be responsible for this threatening letter? Since Monsters Inc is from Disney and Star Wars is not, then who is demanding that the feature and trailer stay together? Is it Lucasfilm, Disney, Fox, Pixar, all of the above, none of the above... who?

Posted by Aaron Sisemore (Member # 145) on 10-30-2001, 03:29 AM:

James: You got a hold of the 'fake EpII trailer' that was made from footage from various pictures that featured the cast members of the new film. It was circulating the net a few months ago. I believe it was originated by someone at http://www.theforce.net IIRC. There is a really cool 'fake' 'Raiders of the Lost Ark: 20th Anniversary' trailer also floating around.

The attachment connection is most likely between Lucas and Pixar as Pixar was once a unit of Lucasfilm back in the 80s.

And yes the Episode I trailer WAS attached to Wing Commander. And there was a notice sent along with the print that said after the first weekend you were to remove it and replace it with some other Fox title (Possibly Titan AE or The Beach? I can't remember for sure which but it came in a separate package after the print arrived.)

From Showbizdata.com...

>>Attendance is expected to soar next weekend with the opening of Pixar's latest computer animated production, Monsters, Inc. The film received an additional boost Monday with word that George Lucas has created "an exclusive teaser trailer" for his upcoming Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones that will be presented at all screenings of Monsters, Inc. In a statement posted on the official Star Wars website, Lucas commented, "I have great respect for Pixar and deep admiration for John Lasseter and his team. I'm thrilled to be able to show audiences their first glimpse of Episode II with Monsters, Inc. It gives me an immense sense of pride to see our companies working together."<<

Maybe old George will get it right this time...who knows?

Posted by Charles Everett (Member # 889) on 11-14-2001, 02:00 PM:

Aaron S is correct. According to Variety, Lucasfilm cut a deal with Pixar to have the Episode 2 trailer attached to Monsters Inc. The "Film Snobs" in the press are too wrapped up in all the hype to get the facts.

Posted by Ian Price (Member # 14) on 11-21-2001, 05:45 PM:

I just saw a new Episode II Attack of the Clones trailer on Harry Potter last night. It was different than the "Breathing" trailer on Monster's Inc. The new trailer makes Episode II look like a sweeping romance. I wonder if in an effort to get the girls Lukas will lose the boys?
