AMC Entertainment to Acquire Gulf States TheatresKANSAS CITY, Mo., Jan 29 (Reuters) - Movie theater operator AMC
Entertainment Inc. (AMEX:AEN - news) said on Tuesday it will acquire the
operations of Gulf States Theaters and take over Gulf's theater lease
agreements with Entertainment Properties Trust (NYSE:EPR - news).
Terms of the agreements were not disclosed, but Kansas City,
Missouri-based AMC, which operates 177 theaters with 2,836 screens worldwide,
said it expects to complete both transactions by March 1.
Gulf States operates five stadium-style megaplex theaters with 68
screens in the New Orleans area.
The acquisition is the second recently announced by AMC. In December,
the company said it had signed a letter of intent to acquire GC
Companies Inc., parent company of General Cinema Theaters.

I knew a guy named Alan Hollis who was a VP with UA. He left UA and went to work for Gulf States. At this year's Show East he was saying how nice it was to work for a smaller chain where you could make meaningful decisions. Well, I guess that is over.

The old Gulf States chain had many nice people. They, at the time (24 years ago ) had a projectionist hand build their automations and his hobby was making fishing nets.....in the booth.
