Hi,
Im Taimur from Karachi, Pakistan. Im planning on opening a multiple screen theatre in Karachi,Pakistan, and as I am currently in the process of working out the feasibility of the project, I am wonering what the average cost of obatining dispaying rights for a brand new release from the top film production companies is in general. Can someone please help?
Thanks,
Taimur

In the West, that isn't normally done by individual theatre owners. There are a number of companies known as distributors (or renters), which licence films from the studios which produced them and then sub-licence them to theatres. Normally the distributor will provide the print (35mm copy of a film) and publicity materials (posters, trailers, that sort of thing). In return, the theatre will pay the distributor a set proportion of the money it charges from customers (in the UK, 35% is around the norm for a mainstream American or British film).

Do film distribution companies exist in Pakistan? If so, have you tried talking to any of them?

In your market film distributors exist but in many situations the film distributors also have an interest in cinema properties. What other cinemas are now operating in your market and what type of film product ( action, musical, U.S., other foriegn ) are they specializing in?
