The other day, while starting The Italian Job, I noticed a young lady sitting on a guy's lap in the top stadium row. She was facing him, sucking face with him. Later I came back to check the movie, and glanced down again, and noticed they weren't there anymore. Nope, they were on the floor now. Doing what you ask? [sex]

Now I have to admit, I've never seen THAT in a theater before! The security guard went in, tip toed up to them and whispered, "you can't do that here!" The guy jumped up, and pulled his pants up - not without unintentionally mooning everyone in the theater - and sat down. The girl apparently had a hard time finding her panties, getting them on, getting her skirt situated, and all that. It took her a few minutes to get completely dressed again. Then they left.

Ever come across that in your theaters? I found out later that it happens a couple of times a week at our place.

I remember I was closing a drive-in theatre one night, and I observed a car that was still on the field...about 1/2 hour after the show. The car was slightly bouncing on the springs.

I went out there with my Mag-Light, rapped on the window, and asked them what they were doing.

The reply was, "just necking"....and I immediately said, "well, the movie is over. Better put your neck back in your pants and take her home." [Big Grin]

I've walked in on that kind of activity a couple of times. My favorite was when there were 2 women rolling around in the aisle together...they were the only ones in the theater. The other male manager that found them didn't mind it too much. [Roll Eyes]

I haven't seen this but I hear about it a lot. Usually happens after the last show gets out at night. Once it happened during the movie "Sex with Strangers" which was some sort of weird ass wannabe documentary about swingers. I only heard that an employee wandered in there during a show and many different people were doing things. I never got the details... that's all I heard. Why that particular movie would turn anyone on is beyond me.

OK now who is going to admit doing it in the theaters themselves? On the clock? I forsee no answers to that question.

A couple of years ago we updated & expanded one of our theatres and had to bring in a banker to look over the project after it was completed. The manager was walking the guy around showing him the building during showtime and decided to take him into one of the auditoriums and show him how nice the auditorium looked with the cleanup lights turned on. The manager looked in this auditorium and didn’t see anyone sitting and turned on the cleanup lights. When they walked down the stairs, they got a surprise view of two naked people lying on the floor. Bet the guy had a lot to talk about the next day at the bank!

Speaking of banks [Big Grin] On one ocassion when I went to my bank, there was a van in the parked inparking lot and was shaking and bouncing around quite severely....with a lot of moaning [Big Grin] comming from inside. My only thought is that this had to bee some kind of Candid Camera gag...to this day I wish that I would have punded on the door!

Sex in the theatre...aw yea. Used to go on the roof of the theatre for an occasional break, the roof being accessed through the booth. While looking down in the parking lot, noticed a 4 door sedan with a guy and gall getting it on, right smack in an open shopping mall parking lot! The girls legs were high in the air...and out the car window. When they finished, the guy climbed out of the car and casually zipped up his pants. Could not resist the cat call this time! [Big Grin]

You're right, no comment! [Smile] Salaried employees are considered on the clock at all times, right? Just wondering...

A very common problem at drive-ins:

Susie Midi

After the last show, we made a clear announcment that the show was over, turned on the field lights, and then discretely walked around the field "picking up trash".

Of course, some of the "trash" was best handled with latex gloves for "protection". [Roll Eyes]

Back when I worked at a drive-in one of the district managers was telling me about when he ran a drive-in back in the 70's they played some of those soft core movies of the time. one day he wanted to close up early so he asked the projectionist to skip reel two and go to reel three running 20 min. reels. No horns blew and no one complained so he told him to skip reel four and go to reel five still no complaints or horns blowing. He was out of there 40 minutes early. It was obvious no one was watching the movie.

Darryl, what drive-in did you work at? I was at all of them there, at one time or another.

I worked the Skyvue Drive-in during the summer of 86. It was the first year that the drive-in converted from Carbon arc to xenon. I was also an assistant manager. I had to learn how to use the carbon arc machine because it was a back-up at the time.

Yeah, John. There was a piece of "trash" glued to one of the speaker poles at another drive-in I worked at. Gross!

The manager told me to remove it. I said " [fu] " - the manager grumbled a little, but that's just tough! I was not about to go out there and "peel it off" the speaker pole.

I found a young couple "exercising" on the floor in the last row of the balcony of a single screen theater I worked at many years ago. It was about 15 minutes after the show ended and I had finished cleaning up the booth and rewinding the last reel. Yup, it was still a change-over booth. I heard some noise when I got down to the balcony. I went over and simply told them the show was over and we want to close up, then went down to the lobby. Ever heard the phrase "deer caught in the headlights"?

A couple minutes later they came down and had to pass by the manager, the clean-up crew, and myself. They were a little embarrassed, to say the least. We all just laughed like hell. There was no one else in the balcony that show and it wasn't worth making a big deal over.

Joe, you won't believe some of the stories I've heard about happenings around here in the 70's.

Once, during the seven o'clock set, I walked in on two employees "getting down with the get down" in the janitor's closet. Needless to say, they were fired promptly! The best part was calling there parents and informing them of what had happened being that the two were only 15 and 16 years old. Ahw, young hormones!

The only time I came across this was looking at a CCTV monitor... which revealed the general manager and a trainee manager 'at it' in the front row of a screen! This was after the last show had finished and we were (or at least I was) closing down the building but still... My plan was to hold a premiere of the tape at the Christmas party, but by that time they'd both moved on to other sites. [Frown]

Ahh Leo, the days of Master Kenny!!! (and Mya of course!)
The best is when a Manager that use to run the cinema was staying at the cinema for a week, when he was between rented flats, a video of him stark naked walking down our art gallery was found! He has since moved on, bought some cloths and took the video tape with him!

That's me in 1978, at age 16 (and the first reel of "Smokey and the Bandit" on #1 there). Rodney was working at Lexington Mall during this time. I look at this picture and can't believe it's me... I'm so 70s - and thinner! My goodness, I was still in high school!

I was turning 14 that year.....last time I was there they had converted it to a twin. When I worked there they had converted projector one the you show over to xenon. If memory serves they still used the lamphouse with a xetron retrofit kit installed. The other machine was exactly like that one except they had removed the 20 minute reel magazines. When I got into this business I started with Mid-states theaters working at the Northpark 6 in 82 left for a while and came back in 84 and been doing it ever since.

There used to be a projectionist that worked at my theatre who would thread all the movies at the beginning of his shift and start them from the remote box in the lobby. You see our theatre is beside a highschool and seniors skip school all the time to come an watch movies and mess around in the theatres cause they're pretty empty during the day. He would watch who was comming in, and when he saw a high school couple he would take note of the theatre they would go into. After a while he would return to the booth and take a peak into the theatres to see if any of his calls were right. If he found a couple going at it in the back row he would watch for a few minutes and then open the window, toss a quarter at them and say something whitty like "Thanks for the show" or something like that. He was alot of fun.

One of my fellow house projectionists at my theatre left us a little surprise the other day in the Mechanical Room just off the booth. I had to go get a light bulb in there and found his used latex and wrapper on the floor. I guess he forgot it in the heat of the moment but it was gone after his next shift. Needless to say that was kinda nasty.

Seven Years Ago (I was not in the theaters circuit) Two employees, A guy who woked as usher and a girl who worked at the concession stand, decided to have fine time after the late show at night. They have sex on the most cunmfortable seat of the theater, but they forget that one CCTV camera was on, and all the staff in the office was looking this strange "Show" [Big Grin] The guy and the girl was fired up immediately...

Another time, an assistant manager, observing the CCTV screen of the emergency exit, saw a girl makin' a blow job to his boyfriend. Once time there finished, the manager walk to hem and ask: Did You had a good time ? (the guy was surprised) Din't You see that we have an CCTV system here and a saw evrything [Big Grin]
The guy and the girl was really confused; they get back to her seats....

What is it with people doing this in a movie theater? is it the sound of the projector that gets people going?

Hey, Darryl. I was at the Kentucky during those years... I'm surprised we didn't know one another - through Rodney, if anything. I think he was there during that time. But it is a small world. I'll bet we could talk for hours about Mid-States and the Whites! I worked briefly at Northpark in the winter of '78, but my car used to get broken into all the time, so I didn't stay long.

I came back to Sky-Vue as manager for the '89 season. There was a Strong Futura/Kneisley 3 KW conversion on #1. Number two eventually got turned around, and an ORC 6000 dropped on the back, for the expansion screen.

Last time I visited, they had a DBL MUT on the big screen and a Drive-In platter for the back (or maybe vice/versa). I think that's since been changed to a Potts 5-deck for both.

They'd had a Hobart MG set there, when I was operator in the 70s. And an Altec 287-W! Everything was still kept in good repair back then, and EVERY downlight on the speaker poles worked! What a sight! Richard Morgan was a great old school manager...

So, how'd you end up at Cinemark?

Resisting the urge to create another topic titled Underaged Sex In The Theater, a friend offered me this anecdote. An usher (oddly enough working at the theater where I'm now employed) caught a girl giving oral pleasure to a guy in an auditorium. The usher told everyone that they were 12 years old. When asked how he knew this, he explained that he knew them - they were from his neighborhood. I never knew any girls like that when I was 12 years old!

I've seen people having sex a few times, here at this theater.
I have no idea why people think they wont get caught with this.

The most recent time was before a show in one of our smaller auditoriums, it was early enough before the next show that no customers had arrived yet, except this one couple.
They sat towards the front. And while I was threading a projector, I noticed the woman was sitting in this guys lap while glancing out the window. Which isn't really a big deal until, from the corner of my I see her moving around kinda funny. I started to pay attention, then I realized she's doing more than just sitting in his lap! I started to turn off the Non-Sync music and tap on the window, and tell them to stop, But then all of a sudden another customer walks in, and he sits about 5 rows behind them. The couple immediately stops to hide what they were doing, however they (mainly the woman) were in a tough position. Because this woman had her pants and panties down around her knees, and she couldn't stand up off the guy to pull them up without exposing herself to the customer behind them! So they just had to sit there like that. After a few minutes the one customer in the back row, for whatever reason got up and walked out the auditorium. Then she quickly got up and pulled her pants back up.

I feel that these acts can be prevented with proper and frequent theater checks by the Ushers. If people are aware that staff walks up and down the isle a few times during a show they wouldn't be doing it.

Why? It's much more fun catching people doing it and then talking about it here. In fact we should all bring digital cameras to the theater and record them from the booth. Then we can put them on a subscription web page and make money from it!

Then once we make a little money, use the video to have a PSA produced and buy time in the pre-show adds to advertise our website in front of R rated movies, and make even more money. [evil]

Can you imagine the offenders coming back and seeing themselves on screen?? [Eek!]

Another story from my younger days....

I was an usher at the Coralwood 6 in Cape Coral, Florida. I was doing our 'closing' procedures at the end of the night. My manager asked me to check on house #3, the film was still running, but he thought the people had left early. I think is was Halloween 4 or 5??? (Whichever came out in 1989). Anyways, I went into the theatre, and a couple were going at it (they were in there by themselves). Being 17, I didn't have the nerve to say anything to them. I went out to tell my manager what I had witnessed. Before I could even say anything to him the couple walked past me to exit. The woman winked at me and thanked me for not interrupting them.

I have only caught this happen twice. Once at a theatre I was watching a movie at and once at the Highland 10. The theatre I was visiting was the AMC Rivercenter 9 in San Antonio. There was acouple in the back row and as I, my friend and SAPD officer walked through the door we were distracted by a lady performing oral sex an a gut in the back corner. The real kicker in this incident was it was a Disney Cartoon that was playing in this auditorium. And as usual the cop failed to see what was happening in the back of the theatre. The one at my Theatre just before I started a show I noticed a young lady dancing and prancing around in front of her date then she hiked her dress up and proceeded to plant herself on top of her date. I radioed the doorman and had them go in and see if they were in fact Bumping the Uglies, and they were. They were asked to either stop and watch the movie or were giving the directions to the Motel 8 around the corner.

I'm completely inncoent... It was in bad boys 2 and the credits were rolling. I have to walk thru one corner of that auditorium in order to get into the booth where my next movie was starting. It was Monday night, and I had just done a casual scan of the house as I walked thru, initially seeing it empty and cursing to myself about leaving the lamp on for an empty house... As I turned to close the booth door I saw movement out of the corner of my eye - I closed the door all but a crack and looked out to ascertain if they were really doing what I think they were doing, saying some form of "Holy Shit" to myself. At this point the stairwell door that I had just come through closed with a nice ker-thunk and they left quickly - the guy fixing his pants on the way out.... No time for a peep show, and besides, I only had 4 minutes to lace up and start the movie..... [Big Grin]

I just meant in the sense that this might be normal practice since you have to go through one to get to the other. Of course I stand corrected if the projectionist hurrying through looks first to see if anyone is in there and/or if the movie is already in credits and then makes the decision either to cushion the close of the door or allow it to slam on its own. It just doesn't seem likely when they're in a hurry but maybe they do. And yes I am nitpicking.

I worked for 9 years at a place that had the booth door right inside the entrance to one of the auditoriums- I was the only one who would go in and out silently- when I was watching a movie while someone else was working you could always hear the doors slamming and fumbling of keys. The only time I made any noise going in or out was if the film wasn't running at all, regardless of how few or many people were in the theater.

Posted by Rachel Gilardi (Member # 1016) on 08-02-2003, 06:26 PM:

You actually don't have to go thru one to get to the other, there is two ways of getting to the booth: 1st by a seperate hallway and the 2nd thru the emergency exit door to the theater. Sometimes the managers just like to do a general walk thru and make sure everythings ok...temp, sound, picture (you know, all the things that SHOULD be done) and depending on where the movie before was its just easier to go thru the theater but NOT nessesary.

Posted by Don Bruechert (Member # 1538) on 08-02-2003, 11:22 PM:

Of course if the guy who owned the place wasn't too frigging cheap to replace the missing door silencer pads it wouldn't be an issue, and of course it did look like the house was completely empty at first glance - it was only when I wondered what the thing was in the corner that I noticed them there.... and Rachel is right - we were within 30 seconds of the blue band at that point. When the feature is running we are careful of both noise and light.

Only ever seen manual stimulation which was stopped as soon I they noticed me. Never actual sex. Takes a lot of courage to pull that off. I find it hilarious and I think it might be interesting to christen a theatre someday. After closing of course. I can't imagine how much this goes on at Drive Ins. I don't envy the clean up crew. I have found condoms before but never used. My guess just some pre-teens that think they're funny.

A group of 4 [2 male 2 female] were observed doing blow jobs at the back of one of the screans last year [I think it was during 28 days later] since they were quiet the floor staff on duty left them to it.

In one of the other local cinemas the staff find people at it in the toilets after the late shows [not enough space in the seats?] and take pleasure in interupting them.

We had a manager try to interrupt a couple and was asked by the female, "Can you just give us five more minutes???"

The manager was flustered by the request, but eventually said, "NO! GET OUTTA HERE!"

I sent my doorman to do auditorium walk throughs a few weeks ago and I covered the door post. A few minutes later, the doorman comes walking up to the post, laughing hysterically. When I asked him what was going on, he replied "I went in there and this lady was on this guy's lap and she's bouncing up and down and I was like whhooooaaa." I tore ass down the hallway to the auditorium but they were finished when I got there and the employee didn't have a description so I couldn't find them.

In 23 years in the business (all hard-tops, no drive-in experience), I think I have seen pretty much everything. I once took over a theatre where the previous manager had kept a cot behind the screen for liasions with both employees and patrons. My two favorite personal stories that I witnessed were:

1.) My old theatre had the aisles with seating on either side. This meant that the back corners of the last rows were "protected" areas. What patrons didn't realize was that our projection booth had an opening window directly above the prime spots in both theatres. One night I looked down and there was a woman who was on her guys lap (she was facing away from the screen and towards the back wall) and riding him. At one point she leaned her head back and as she did she saw me looking down at them and grinning. After a second, she winked at me and kept doing. She didn't tell her boyfriend and I called other some of the other staff members up. She gave us a full show.

2.) When I was still a concessionist, we got 4/1 hotdogs for the first time. We had the old rotating prong style hotdog cooker and we put them on the prongs lengthwise, just as we had the 10/1 hotdogs. The problem was that the tip of the big dogs would brush against the bottom of the cooker and leave a white residue behind. On afternoon, a lady in her 30s came in by herself. When she walked past the cooker, she stopped and stared at it for a little while, blushed and then went into the theatre. A few minutes later she came out and came over to the stand. I asked her what she wanted and she said she wanted a hot dog. I asked her of she wanted mustard or catsup on it and she said she just wanted a hot dog. I shrugged, grabbed a hot dog bag, started to pick up a bun with the tongs and she said, no, she JUST wanted a hot dog. I looked at the others of us who were in the stand, shrugged again, put her hot dog in the bag and took her money. She promptly went into the women's restoom and did not come out again for about 10 minutes. We were all agast, granted, we don't know for sure what, if anything, she did in there, but when I started singing "Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Meyer Weiner" all of us started laughing out loud. When she left the rest room, she did not look at us in the stand, and walked straight into the theatre... without her hot dog.

Jeez, I loved being in the business in the late 70s - early 80s, with real midnites and less of society telling everyone how to behave. It was a lot of fun in those days, especially in a college town two-screen theatre.

I have never witnessed any sex acts in my theatre-we're known as an "upscale theatre", but I have found women's underwear in the theatre. My projectionist informed me that 2 young women were sitting there and they were kissing before the film started. I had to pick it up with a broom, I was so creeped out.

The biggest shocker-this was in a showing of Life is Beautiful. I can understand people getting busy during sexy scenes of films, or maybe they're just bored...but a holocaust film? Plus, we were showing Post-Coitum in another theatre, an unrated French film - the storyline you can guess by the title.

Is there something uncontrollable about Roberto Begnini? Or since they preferred women, maybe Nicoletta Brashi.

That is an unlikely story. When you get old enough to have sex yourself, you will find out that a cooked hot dog does not have the right...consistency for that kind of use.

Honestly, I would do it in a theater -- just not my own, regardless of whether or not I was on the clock.

I might believe it if I hadn't been there, as it was *I* was the one who served her, I also still know most of the other staffers who were there as witnesses as well (I am living in the house of one of them, in fact). Believe it or not, it happened... but I make no claim as to what actually was done with the hot dog in the restroom, although we did comment that security cameras in there at that time would have been interesting. The items that are facts are exactly what I said, no more and no less... anything else is pure speculation.

Did you ever consider the possibility that you are both correct? That the story is true and the speculation was accurate but the hot dog rigidity issue also correct? That is, the woman was feeling a bit frisky and got the hot dog only to find out that it was less than ideal for its intended purpose? So she disposes of it, maybe after a bit of external stimulation, then heads into the movie.

Thinking outside the, um, box.

I don't know about the whold hot dog bit, but i had a funny story.

My first week in the booth, i started the movie, and while i was checking the picture to make sure it was in frame and right side up, (don't ask, i was young and naive back then. the only difference is im not so young) [Roll Eyes] I looked down out of the porthole because some movement caught my eyes. The girl was facing the screen, but riding her man. I guess they both wanted to watch the movie and catch some action.

There seems to be a pent-up demand. I suppose all sorts of laws would be broken if a theatre sort of said, wink wink, do whatever you want at certain specific late night shows, same way as there are special morning shows for mommies (or daddies) with babies and toddlers.

Speakin of hot dogs...I think I posted this elsewhere, but have forgotten.

In the USAF, Squadrons generally have snack-bars, with the funds going towards things like Squadron picnics and mwr related stuff around the barraks.

Norton AFB had two snack-bars in the hangar, one for the EMS squadron, and the other for AGS.

Well, one day the airman assigned to the EMS snack-bar for the day was supposed to be on his lunch brake, and had the snack-bar locked up. As it turned out, one of the EMS CMSgts had to get into the snack bar. Upon opening it, the Chief cought the airman with a frozen weenie up his backside while spankin'da'monkey to a porn magazine!

Needless to say the airman was courts-martialed, the EMS snack-bar never rebounded, and everyone made it a point to tease the Cheif on a regular basis!

We never really minded what went on in the theatre as long as no one else was bothered, but as for permitting any sort of regular or larger-scale activity, in the early 80s, when we still showed midnites, we showed ours on Fri. and Sat. and an independent theatre down the road (which were on good tems with) showed X-rated midnites on Thu - Sat, so on Thu several of us would go over there, help them out and then sit up in the balcony (no patrons) watching and laughing and having a good time. Nothing was permitted in the theatre during the grode flicks (as they were called) and as the theatre was directly across the street from the campus and usually sold out (to couples) it wasn't like a 42nd Street porn theatre environment. Other than an occassion girl taking off her top or something, we had less happen during the porn flicks than we did during the regular features or our own midnites (which were not porn).

Well, scientific fact tells us where a man's "G-spot" is.

I once was checking theaters late on a weeknight to determine if anyone was in the theaters so I could shut off the bulbs. I walked in one theater and saw two teenagers laying on the floor while another boy sat by and watched them go at it. They were only about 13-14!

Another time I walked in our biggest theater and found a drunk guy totally passed out in the aisle. He had actually started in the theater acroos from that one with his buddy but got up to go to the bathroom and got lost going back. HA!

One more story that happened but was not in a theater. My buddy and I were walking through some woods by a river looking for snakes (he collected reptiles and we skipped school that day as usual) and got a good peep show. He almost stepped on a snake and we watched it slither away and off the edge of the 20' high cliff we were on. When we looked over to see where it went we saw two people below going at it "doggy style" [sex] with a video camera laying on a log. We continued walking and eventually turned around to go back to our car. At some point we got ahead of them and they walked by us and we laughed our butts off. I think they knew we saw them. These woods were very well known for this type of stuff happening so much so that the town finally made the property off limits. Weirdest thing I ever saw.

One of our projectionists at Wallace used to have a knack for catching people getting it on...Often I'd walk up stairs and find him pressed up against a port window curled over the top of the projector peering through the glass.

My favorite was in the back row of Drumline there was two people in the 5th row and 2 in the back. You coudln't see the girls head in the back..well, the back of it since it was in this guys lap...Funiest part though was that the girl in the 5th row got up, walked over the seats to the back and handed the head giver a phone...She sat stradling a seat back talking on it for about 3 minutes until the manager on duty went in and rattled his keys...

My favorite though is when we caught an assistant manager from the competition across town in a late show of Atlantis waxing his own carrot while his girlfriend sat by topless...After discovery he left the theater. A week later when the GM across town started teasing him for it he quit there too.
The worst one though was when a manager let slip durring an orientation that they'd gotten it on in the theater they were currently walking through... [Roll Eyes]
