Hi everybody. I don't post often but I need some help from all members on the board. I am cvurrently in the process of writing a college assingment on the nature of paid work. I discussed the topic with my prof and he thought it was a great idea to do an assingment on the history of film projection employment. Key ideas to the assingment will be the evolution of the job, wage payments, union representation and technological advances.

I need everyone's help. If you can provide some information as the year the first union emerged, the technolgical advances like the birth of automation and platter systems and even average wage at certain times.

If you can please add in to the chart below. THANKS EVERYONE.

A few quick thoughts.

Pre 1950
New Tech=
Sound on Disc, Sound on Film, Colour film.
Hazard= Nitrate film, Highly Flamable

1950-1960
New Tech=
Cinerama (1952), Birth of Widescreen.
CinemaScope (1953) Still in use today, Widescreen for the masses
Todd-AO (1955) 70mm High Definition Widescreen. Comonly know just as 70mm now.

1960-1970

1970-1980
New Tech=
Dolby Noise reduction used on 35mm Film, to give higher quality sound.
Dolby Stereo sound on 35mm film. Giving Left, Center and Right.
Dolby Stereo with Surround sound on 35mm film.
Dolby Noise reduction used on 70mm magnetic soundtracks.

1980-1990
CDS Cinema Digital Sound demonstrated and use on 70mm film in a handfull of venues.
Dolby SR Noise redustion added to the DOlby Stereo sound system (1986)

1990-2000
New Tech=
DTS (Digital Theatre Sound) introduced with Jurrasic Park, 1991/2
Dolby Digital 35mm Digital sound system introduced.(1992) Batman Returns
DLP Digital Cinema invented and introduced in a handfull of cinemas.
SDDS (SOny Dynamic Digital Sound) Introduced on 35mm film
DTS70 (dts used on 70mm film)
PAY= Depends on the cinema you work at!

2000-present
DLP 2k projectors introduced (2003)

As far as history you all have me beat, but this actually refers to "Digital Theatre Systems" it's a company name.
