Does anyone here have any experience building software for use in a POS/touchscreen environment?

Enough to say that it's not worth the effort for what you can purchase existing point of sale software for.

Last time I called somebody's point of sale software a piece of [bs] I got a lot of hate mail.

We use Rob's RTS system. For a medium-market situation, it's got the best bang for the buck of anything I've seen. I can't comment on larger markets, but his system seems flexible enough to handle about anything you'd want to throw at it.

I know you are talking about touchscreen in particular but here is a thread that might be useful about different ticketing software.

Here.
