Can anyone tell me the average showings per screen that the average multiplex runs on a weekday, and also the average number they run on a weekend day.

At the 16 screen I work at we generaly run 4 or 5 shows per screen depending on the length of the film. It is always the same for weekdays or weekends.

General rule of thumb for us-

Running time up to 1'45":

6 Weekends
5 Weekdays

Over 1"45:

5 Weekends
4 Weekdays

I know, what if the running time is exactly 1'45"? Then it depends on your start time as to whether you can squeeze in the extra show.

Are your number of showings inclusive of your trailer programming? If not, you're running some long hours...

We run 5 showings per auditorium per day. Usually it's 5, occasionaly a short kids film will get a sixth show since we do pretty well among that demographic.

Of course with 25 screens we aren't too worried about a lack of showtimes.

24 screen:

Average Weekend:
6 Showings, also the occasional 7 showings during the summer. Varying by viewer demand.

Average Weekday:
5 Showings

Those are the running times of the films. We generally have a 10 minute minimun, 13 max on our trailer core.

Yes. Running hours are long, as we are located in a mall. When product is good, we will start at 10:00AM on weekends, and ususally 11:00AM during the week. When it's slow, we move those times back by one hour.

We never end much before midnight during the week. Somewhat later on weekends. In blockbuster season, we have been known to end as late as 2AM.

Rank has it's privilege. Yours truly rarely works a closing shift. [Big Grin]

Back when i ran a theater.. oh so long ago.... i ran four showings per day.. with some good breaks between the films for proper cleaning..

when I switched from five shows to four.. our sales went up... and our payroll went down....

then ownership saw this and said.. "hey, if we can make this much with four shows.. lets have five!!!"

which of course extended payroll hours, increased electricity usage and cost, and spread the same customers over five shows instead of four, cutting the time we had between shows for cleanup, and therefore increasing payroll again..

then ownership said "what are you doing wrong? Your payroll went up, cost went up, and sales are down?"

This is why I went to politics!!

At least people expect them to be stupid....

We run 4 to 5 shows per screen on weekends. In a town of about 42,000, there isn't enough interest, or employees that don't have school, to do weekday matinees. (Except during the summer, when we never run more than 4 shows per screen)
