Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me, I have quite a collection of Movie Posters (27 x 40) and I would like to give some as christmas presents, I would like to frame a few. Does anyone know where I can buy frames to fit these posters fairly cheaply?

If you plan to post here regularly, take my advice and actually spell out your first name before a moderator gets on you or perhaps you are even baned. One may not like all the rules here, but all members use their real names and we (mostly) respect each other as colleagues with valuable opinions.

I've seen frames to the specs you need sometimes at Wal-mart. They may have only one or two, however. Other than that you might be paying more than you want. Avoid having them professionally done if your just giving to casual friends or co-workers as most framers will cost you an arm and a leg.

If you have any Suncoast movie stores in your area, I'd go check them. They usualy have 27x40 frames for about $20.00. And there somewhat decent looking. But thats the cheapest (and highest quality all at the same time) that i've seen.

I have 3 fancy backlit poster cases in the elevator foyer and supplement them with what I call pseudo-frames which are simply surrounds that I've made for posters attached to the walls. What's a good source for simple, basic cases for posters that will be changed regularly? Actually I don't even need glass.

steve,

do your the sides of your frames 'snap' open and close to hold the poster in place. We had those at my old theater (with no glass in them either) and they worked great (though quite ugly).

No, my homemade pseudo-frames are just a decorative surround. On the other hand the backlit cases are the real deal with fronts that open like a door. Key locks.

Ahh, lockable poster cabinets. My dream. Being a University cinema, we don't have a chance of keeping hold of some posters. Out of four Finding Nemo posters, we got half one back. We have horrible cabinets that have a sheet of clear plastic held in by snap-edges. However, it's generally the cases that the edges are so weak that they can't hold the plastic in, or so strong that they won't open. Gah.
