I was at a 10-plex recently, and their projection room consisted of a pre-show CD that runs on a continuous loop through all the theaters (Unique Screen Media), and they run a NCN/MovieTunes CD on a separate machine for the audio track (it is also piped into lobby). The video image shuts off when the projectionist manually turns the 35mm projector. The projector then has programming (via magnetic strips on the film) to dim the lights, open the curtain, etc.

Question: How common is this setup? What percentage of theaters (ballpark) run this way?

Probably more than 99% of all theaters.

This thread isn't going to go anywhere so I'm going to lock it before unnecessary comments start to be made.
