With the looming AMC/Loews merger and the Loews name disappearing, everyone should go out and take pictures, if of nothing else, the marque of all Loews. There shouldnt be an issue of sneaking a camera into a building, just take pictures of the outside, as the signage will most likely change. I'll start in Manhattan, and hopefully all of the current Lowes throughout the country can be documented.

Are there even any Loews theaters in Oklahoma? I'm pretty sure the ones nearest my location are over in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Honestly, I think AMC would do better to adopt the Loews moniker. It certainly has more history, prestige and brand name recongnition -even with Loews grand palaces of old being long gone. And then AMC stands for "American Multi Cinema" (I think). Not exactly a term that makes anyone think prestige in cinema.

The last Loew's theatres in Oklahoma that I know of were the Brook and the Delman in Tulsa. Also, to my knowledge, these two were the only Loew's theatres ever to be in Oklahoma. And Loew's really didn't want them, but had to take them as part of a package that included theatres in Dallas that they did want.

As to naming, I agree that Loew's would be the better name.

Back in the 80s, a friend of mine managed a six-plex for Essaness Theatres. Once upon a time, they made him (and other managers) go to a meeting in Wisconsin, ostensibly to go over Essaness policies. A week later, Essaness sold all their Chicago area theatres to Plitt (without telling the managers anything about it). It wasn't too long after that happened when Plitt was bought by, and changed the name to, Cineplex Odeon.

Then there was the period when local chain M & R was bought out by Loews. Then, they changed the name to Sony. THEN, when Sony merged with Cineplex Odeon, they changed the name to Loews/Cineplex.

And, gee whiz, I've already forgotten...didn't AMC already buy up all the General Cinemas?

Hell, why don't they just buy EVERY DAMN THEATRE and call them all WORLD CINEMA CORPORATION?
