Hey all, we are opening a new theatre in Kansas City, KS and were trying to go the route of booking english prints with spanish subtitles. While we didn't think that this would be easy it is much harder than we though. My question to you is do any of you run major studio new releases with spanish subtitles? Or, is there a theatre in your area that does and can you link me to their website? Thanks!

Is there really any market for this? Even in Miami which has an extremely large hispanic population (I believe over 50%), I don't know of any theatre that runs spanish subtitles. I remember the ads in a few New York Times that I have seen where I think one theatre was designated as having spanish subtitles.

....One...cinema in Miami runs Spanish sub-titles, they don't advertise since their local patrons know who they are.
Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic run day & date or 10 - 45 days later with Spanish sub-titled prints...so the majors have them but may be printed in Mexico or Argentina so servicing you may be a hassle.

I wonder if rear window captioning (like NCAM's) offers captioning in languages other than English. I did a quick look through their site, but didn't find anything immediately.

If they did, you would just book a standard English language print, only the DTS MoPix disc would be different.

Reel #5 of our print of Mission: Impossible was subtitled in Spanish. Until the replacement came our customers were not amused.

I wouldn't know how to go about it other than calling up the distributors and studios... But I can say that in the last few years I have also gotten a handfull of things by accident that were first-run releases subtitled in spanish. Off the top of my head "The Hulk" and "X-Men 2", and I think one of my guys caught an "Incredibles" reel subtitled before going on with it.

So they do exist as first-run releases, case-by-case no doubt, but as for getting them (on purpose) who knows. Also try calling up local theatres in an effort to get a hold of their booking agents and see if they have any contacts that might be able to help you out.
