Hi Folks:

For the last two weeks the Aquarius has carried programming on only one screen. Any ideas why? I am simply curious.

Maybe the other screen is down due to mechanical difficulties, or they just didn't book for it this week. Again, a simple phone call should answer your question:

Hi Folks:

The phone number goes to an answering machine. The showime records gives no explanation of why only one screen is booked. Landmark keeps the "inside" phone numbers a secret in the bay area so theres no way to contact the theatre staff.

Must not be any Film-Techers in that area or you'd have had an answer by now. I'd contact the home office from that website and ask them.

Actually, regulars Eric Hooper & Carl Martin are from my area. I'm suprised they haven't chimed in. I'll take you advise and e-mail the home office.

Got a reply from the home office of Landmark Theatres. I am told that they are renovating one of the auditoriums. I assume when they have finished they will renovate the other side. Amazing.........Landmark actually investing money in one of their theatres...Amazing.

Well, they just finished a month-long remodel of the NUART in Los Angeles...new seats with added legroom, decor, lobby, exterior, etc.

I personally think the Landmark Nuart remodel is to keep people going there since Laemelle is constructing the new 14 screen artplex down on Pico that I think will shutter most single screeners on Santa Monica.

Isn't that new 14-plex supposed to be a Landmark?
And AFAIK, there is only one other theatre (single or otherwise) on Santa Monica, Laemmle's Royal, the building which includes their chain's offices.

That Aquarius Twin needed a remodel too. It's in a good location as well!

I hope they put new seats, and get rid of that rediculous middle isle.

Hi Folks:

Was at the Aquarius last night for "Who Killed the Electric Car". They appear to be renovating the bathrooms and possibly expanding them. They have removed the last 3 rows of seats from the large auditorium and built a large "box" which connects to the back wall where the bathrooms are. Projector shoots picture "over" the big box and down to the screen. Seats, carpet, screens, etc. all the same.

The owner of the buiding has posted some sort of a legal letter on the outside poster case stating that they will not be responsible or liable for any changes to the property.
