Well, besides my scooping arm. We are now selling Hudsonville ice cream at our theatre. Today was the first day and we did excellant business. The place that used to sell real ice cream went out of business becasue the owner gambled away all his money at the casino.
We did excellant, as my arm can attest to. Thankfully, I did work at the aformentioned ice cream place when I was younger so know about sore scooping arm.
It ends up that the icecream and the theatre are beneficial to eachother. People will be eating their ice cream and relaize how cheap it is to see a movie and decide to go...apparently the big VOGUE THEATRE marquee sign is to small for some people to realize that we actually DO play movies here. "You play like...real movies..?"
Also, a lot of people got ice cream after they saw a movie.
This was our first day selling ice cream and already we went through 2/3 of the way through a lot of the 3 gallon barrel things.

Im already getting excited people msging me ont he vogues myspace page excited about real ice cream thing.

I want to hear, after a week, how many half-finished cups of melted Fudge Ripple Delight are left to overturn on upholstered seats ("I'll just leave that here when the movie's over, they'll clean it up...")

Better be ready to invest any profit you think you will earn, in a couple of good wet/dry vacs and additional cleaning crew they can go thru the auditoriums after each show sucking up the melted goo that is inevitable and which you will find on seats, on the floor, every conceivable place patrons have access to. Be prepared to also have the cleaners lug around jugs of hot water to spill on the goo that has dried to loosen it so it can be sucked up by the vacs. Trust me, this isn't gonna be a pretty turn of events.

Oh, and to answer the topic question, "Who doesn't love ice cream," .....the answer is EVERYONE who has to clean the theatre!

don't be so quick to cringe at the thought of ice creams being consumed in the theatres. here in New Zealand, movies and ice cream go hand in hand. ice creams here go fast, kinda like nachos and cheese in the states.

the guests really arent as messy as you would think either. of course, the kids films can leave their mark, but cleanup isnt really too much of a hasstle. just some wet towel and a little spray cleaner will rid the seats of drips and spills. i reckon soft drink spills are far worse than anything the ice creams can do, but thats just me [Smile]

The same applies in Australia. The common movie food is a "choc - top" ice cream. (A scoop of ice cream in a cone, with the ice cream then dipped in chocolate.)If the cinema runs out of them the Patrons go beserk. Its like a bar running out of beer.
Ice cream has been a movie staple in Australia since the beginning of cinemas. In our history popcorn has been a fairly recent inclusion. When I was a child I never had popcorn at the cinemas. It was always a choc top and a packet of potato chips or malteasers and some form of drink.

You sell ice cream at the theater, but don't allow people to take it in to watch their movie? I'd be pissed if I bought something, only to be told on my way in I couldn't take the product I just bought from you with me, as it isn't allowed in your business. That's like ordering a Whopper at Burger King, then being asked to leave because you can't eat it in the restaurant. [uhoh]

We were reluctant to sell nachos or bon-bons due to the clean up horror stories we had always been told about. We have been selling both (plus ice cream sandwiches) for years now, and their not any messier than soda and buttered popcorn. Maybe we're just lucky, but it is a non-issue. They also sell at a very brisk pace. We also allow anything bought from concessions or our coffee house to be taken into the auditorium, and would never think of changing that policy.

We sell 6 flavours of "Choc-Tops"(we make them ourselves)and sell shit-loads of them.
We have people driving by up the coast on holidays who just call in and stock up with their favourite flavours!!
The local pensioners would beat us with their walking sticks if we stopped making them.
And you know what else?It actually gives the Candy Bar/Floor staff something to do when sessions are running!
